I think he's a good buy. Forget about him needing 3 more years at Santos. He looked pretty ready to me from what I saw at the Confederations Cup. Hell, Arsenal even bid 14 million pounds for him, but that seemed to just spur Real into sealing the bid.
Also, the English press now seem to be doing their best to pressure Owen into returning to England. They claim Robinho will be paired with Ronaldo and thus leave Owen on the bench. Robinho isn't a striker, he's a midfielder. The person he's replacing is Luis Figo as Real try to rebuild their midfield. Zidane, Figo and Beckham are all in their 30s, so the management knows it's time to bring in some fresh blood.
Owen will have to continue battling Raul for a starting place. And IMO, he's got the mental strenght to do just that.

Real Madrid have finally secured the signing of Robinho after protracted negotiations over the last few months.
Florentino Perez et al had agreed contractual terms with the Santos ace many moons ago, but the transfer fee has always been an issue of contention. The sum has now finally been agreed at a wopping great 25 million euros, though an incredible 40% will go to the Brazilian’s agent Wagner Ribeiro.
Arsenal had held admittedly hopeful intentions of landing what many believe to be a cast-iron star of next year’s World Cup, but the Gunners quest has been put to the sword. In fact, Arsenal's public declaration is likely to have been the catalyst for Real to seal the deal, and at some expense considering the comparatively paltry transfer bids that were previously mentioned.
Emilio Butragueno took no time to talk-up Robinho once the transfer was secured, "Robinho has been the soccer sensation of the last year…Although he is very young, his contribution to Real Madrid can be spectacular. Luxemburgo only took seconds in giving his opinion. Wanderley is enchanted by his arrival."
Robinho’s relationship with Santos had soured in recent weeks after he failed to report for training on two separate occasions on returning from Germany, following Brazil’s victorious Confederations Cup campaign.
This hikes the Real recruitment drive up to three after the double capture of Uruguayan team mates Carlos Diogo and Pablo Garcia earlier in the week, as Real abandon the Galacticos policy in an attempt to dislodge Barcelona at the peak of the Spanish game.

Robinho has pleaded with Santos' president, Marcelo Teixeira, to keep his promise to allow him to move to Real Madrid as his transfer saga drags on.
The Brazilian starlet claims that the club supremo vowed to allow him to move after the Copa Libertadores and is shocked that they have rejected a $25million move for him.
He then revealed that his mind is no longer at Santos and that he only wants to move to the Bernabéu.
"I didn’t expect such a fuss when I got a concrete offer to leave Brazil," Robinho explained..
"’I don’t know if I’m going to play for Santos again. But at the moment, I’m not in the right frame of mind to play in Brazil.
"It’s difficult to say that I don’t want to play for Santos any more, but that’s how life goes.’
"In October last year, when PSV and Benfica were interested in me, the president told me that he would let me go after the Libertadores for €10 million.
"Real Madrid are offering $25 million and he doesn’t want to let me go. I hope he keeps his promise."
Teizeira has recently claimed that any club wanting to buy Robinho would have to pay $50million for his services, or wait until his contract expires in 2008.

Well, the transfer saga has dragged on and on and on with no end in sight. Robinho insists he wont play for Santos again, while Santos insist he's still their player and must return to Brazil pending when they reach an agreement with any club to sell him. I agree with Chxta. The boy is silly for insisting on a move, cos the club may well decide to reject the Real offer and accept one from any other club, no matter the value. He'll only end up sulking.
