Roberto Baggio will miss the start of the new season after the Brescia star went under the knife.

The playmaker had a minor knee operation to clean out some fluid and will need total rest for the next 15 days.

The Italian veteran, now 36, is expected to be available for selection from Week 2 of the new campaign.

Meanwhile, Brescia boss Gianni De Biasi has told the club that he still needs a number of new players.

"I think we are still five or six players short," said the tactician. "One of those is definitely a goalkeeper, a central midfielder, a winger and a striker.

"Obviously it all depends on how the transfer market evolves and it is only normal that a few of my players may be somewhere else in the next few days."

Brescia have rejected claims that star man Roberto Baggio is considering his future at the club.

Reports yesterday suggested that the legend could consider quitting the Lombard outfit in response to the club’s lack of signings.

But the Serie A side today maintained that the 36-year-old would be part of a competitive team next season.

"Roberto is staying with us," insisted sporting director Gianluca Nani. "His desire to play for a strong team is one shared by us.

"We are working hard behind the scenes and I think we will be able to bring in a number of new players. We just need a little patience."

Brescia boss Gianni De Biasi admitted this week that he was expecting a number of new arrivals in the next month.

"I think we are still five or six players short," said the tactician. "One of those is definitely a goalkeeper, a central midfielder, a winger and a striker.

"Obviously it all depends on how the transfer market evolves and it is only normal that a few of my players may be somewhere else in the next few days."

This may be Baggio’s last season in the professional game as he has just one year left on his contract.

Good to know, but let's hope that Brescia will build up a competitive team, cause 4 the moment they are just selling players :( Next year Roby do not deserve to soffer cause IMO it was enought to affort the 6° knee operation and to spend an other summer doing rehabilitation like last year... he deserve a "relaxing" season with no big problems!

In the pic Roby leaving the hospital. He will need 2 weeks of total rest than he will go again to Bologna Isokinetic, weare he will do the rehabilitaton.

Here it is the operation bullettin:

"The operation was ended with successful. It took nearly one hour and it was done in general anaesthesia: the mobile body (ectopic endoarticular bone) was placed under the pobliteus muscle and has been removed by a posterior surgical access, not an artroscopic one.
To support this surgical way the vascular surgeon Dr. Marinelli was present with Doctor Maurilio Marcacci, helping the equipe to reach the body among veins, areteries and blood vessels.
There is no complications after the operation. 60 days are the total recovery-time; during the first 15 Roberto Baggio shall not do any activity to consent the natural tissue's rebuilding.

I hope that brescia will manage to do better at home against Villareal, since 2-0 ain't unreachable! Go Brescia ... do it for Baggio!

Yes, let's hope that everything will go in the right way and that Roby will be recovered and fulyfit soon!

I don't think the intertoto is a big target cause also if they will quilify (difficolt) which future can have Brescia in the UEFA? They need at list a golkeeper, a defender a mieldfielder and a striker if they want to affort UEFA; if they will not reinforse the team (and probably they won't) is useless to be in the UEFA cause they will be kickt out at the first round.

Corioni declared that Roby will play in Brescia at list till 50!

Don't know if Roby is agree with this :D

Mate, you know the tapes that Gazzetta Dello Sport sells ... did they put out a tape about Baggio in his Juve's days?

I think there is a cassette of Baggio in Juve days, but actually it not result in the gazzetta's collection so it may be from logos or from someweare else.
From gazzetta you can find "Baggio il divin Codino", but it is about about his whole carear.

http://www.gazzetta.it/gazzetta/common/area_gazzetta/vhs_new/baggio/baggio_index.jhtml

Than there are some cassettes about more than 1 player like

-The protagonists of the 90'
http://www.gazzetta.it/gazzetta/common/area_gazzetta/vhs_new/anni90/anni90_index.jhtml

-Baggio, Maradona, Raul
http://www.gazzetta.it/gazzetta/common/area_gazzetta/vhs_new/gol-parade/golparade9_index.jhtml

-Juve from A to Z
http://www.gazzetta.it/gazzetta/common/area_gazzetta/vhs_new/juve_forever/juveforeveraz_index.jhtml

And you can find also "goal parade" who include many Roby goals and some video of matches, like for example the fantastic Inter-Real Madrid 3-1; but nothing just about Roby Juve days.

Not to sound depressing or anything, but I hope that when Roby's career ends and for the rest of his life, he will be able to walk without difficulties or end up with arthritis in his legs- with all the surgeries and problems he's had with his knees.

Its a sad fact that many American football players (NFL) end up crippled later in life, or end up dependent on pain-killers.....

I love Roby, and want him to have a good healthy life when calcio ends....

6 knee surgeries are a lot.
From what I know the left knee, the one who got broken last year before the WC do not boder Roby too mutch (he opereted it "just" 2 times) while is the right one (4 surgeries are all 4 it) who really never recovered from the first time he injured it when 17 cause that time he broke all the ligaments (both lateral and cruciate) + the meniscus and the "capsula" togeder, so it has to be rebuilted from 0.
It looks like he already has a lot of problems, like 4 example when he stays a lot with the leg folded like 4 example in the car than it's very difficolt and painful to put it straight again.
On his book (and it was written 2 surgeries ago) he said that he already know that he will have some problems in the future and that the pain will never leave him even when he will leave sport but that he has been told that if he will go on doing all the specific exercises and the phisioteraphy he is doing now he will be able to walk and to do everything normaly. If he stop that, yes maybe he will have problems to walk when he will be older, but he is very aware of it so I guess he will not stop.

Brescia was sent out from intertoto by Villereal, they drew 1-1 at home after loosing 2-0 in Spain. Vittorio Petrone Roby's manager, who went to see the match with the President Corioni stopped again the voices about Roby to change team, he said he is happy in Brescia and he will stay there.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roby is in his mountains house, near Vicenza, where he holds his convalescence. On Monday he will go to Bologna where the points will be taken away from the knee and he will start the rehabilitation. In these days he has followed the events of Brescia with big passion, calling often on the phone the managers, De Biasi and the teammates.

Roby went today to Bologna's Isokitinetic to do some medical test 4 his knee... and he relised a small interview to the journalists who weare there waiting there 4 him and actually he didn't give very nice news to his fans :groan:
When asked "which kind of season will be the next?" he answered " I don't know which season it will be, but I know it will be probably my last one", and again when asked when he will recover he ansowerd "I don't know, I will figure out after the tests I will do next days", he also skipped every questions about what he will do in his future.

Looks like he is in a very bad mood :( maybe is just because he got bored after 15 days in which he couldn't do nothing cause when they cought him right after his holydays in Argentina he looked very happy and he said he thinks he will keep playing more than one year. Anycase... if he has to give us such news is better that he go back in "press silence":sob:

Roby new striking patner was choosen: it will be Filippo Maniero! To say a new thing he said that to play with Baggio was his biggest dream :D Of course it is... he is the best around in assists ;)
So finilly Brescia will have a striker who has a hight average of goals... Maniero scored 119 goals in his career between serie A and B, 13 last season.

Maniero indeed is a good news :cheesy: Just hope Baggio will get back on the pitch soon and help him with the assists and scored that long awaited 200th goal! :star:

Thank you for the info for the videos :)

Yes, Maniero is a very good choice 4 Brescia! :cheesy:
4 Guardiola I don't know... I don't think it will be possible cause Brescia has money problems and Corioni decided that he do not want to pay hight wages to anybody except Baggio, so he made Pep a "ridicolous" offer and so he will probably prefer to go to England.
If he stay in Brescia earning 1/6 of last year, it really mean that he do love this jersey a lot, but IMO he won't.
Di Biagio will be probably the new Brescia m/f cause maybe he will obtain a "liquidation" from Inter so 4 him will not be a problem to accept a small wage and play 4 the "rondinelle".

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yesterday the calendar was decided...
If Roby will confirm that he will quit soccer at the end of the season  his last match will be in San Siro.
The destiny decided that his last "opera" will be in the "Scala of Calcio"... :touched:
How a very famos song say he will "turn off the lights in San Siro"... :sob:

Very refreshing to see so many people discussing the accomplishments, both past and future, of the most talented soccer player to take to the pitch. Mate, it seems like your the closest to Rigamonte, please keep this thread alive and add your insight as its much appreciated. I'm from Canada and I hope to visit Rigamonte this year to see the divine one, as it appears as if this will be his last. A question to all of you though - how likely is it that Baggio will be called up by that piece of trash trappitoni by the Euro's - didn't he say earlier this year that Baggio will get his chance very soon?

Welcome Mark! :)

I don't think Trap will ever call up Roby again (and actually is also possible that also Roby do not want to have anything to do with Trap anymore), now is too late... sometimes he say like this but IMO is just to please fans who keep on hating him and contesting him 4 excluding Italy beloved from WC 2002.
But never say never... and here in Italy there is also some pressure to make Roby join the Olimpic NT, cause it is allowed to have some over-quota and it will be so nice to nice to see Roby there... who knows...

News about Roby:
He is now in Cortina, weare there is an other Isokinetic center, he was reconiced from peaple while walking and doing shopping in the town. Looks like he mouved there cause Bologna was too hot. He spend most of his days there doing rehabilitation an phisiotheraphy to recover from the operation in Isokinetic and in the free time playing with his kids in hotel Cristallo garden.
