Mavuba-Juve: ‘My future? Too early to tell. I haven’t spoken to any clubs’


Bordeaux midfielder Rio Mavuba, who had been linked with a move to Manchester United and Juventus during the January transfer window, remains a highly sought-after player for the summer. The player told French newspaper L’Equipe that he would like to play in the Champions League next season. “It’s soon to talk about my future. It matters a lot to me that Bordeaux qualify for the Champions League. At the moment I have not spoken to any clubs yet. I have a contract until 2009 and a lot will depend on how the season ends. I want to play in the Champions League. No one can tell whether I will leave or now, but I know the right time to leave will come.”

Palermo are also said to be interested in Mavuba, as they need someone to replace Corini in midfield.

Mavuba hints at Bordeaux exit


Bordeaux star Rio Mavuba has hinted he could be prepared to leave the club in the summer if they fail to secure UEFA Champions League football.

The midfielder was linked with a move to Manchester United and Juventus in January and is likely to attract renewed speculation at the end of the season as he remains one of Ligue 1's most desirable players.

Bordeaux are currently four points shy of third-placed Lens in the French league, and Mavuba has put his suitors on red alert by admitting he requires Champions League football at this stage in his career.

"Today it is a little early to talk about my future," Mavuba told L'Equipe. "For me it is more important that Bordeaux qualify.

"There has been no talk with the club. I am under contract until 2009 and it will all depend on our final ranking.

"I have to play in the Champions League and no-one can say if I will leave. I know at a certain time it will be the right moment to go away.

"We will take stock at the end of the season, but obviously the season's scenario has become more exciting so there is less of an emergency."

Meanwhile, Bordeaux have handed a professional contract to 16-year-old starlet Henri Saivet.

The striker has already featured for the club's reserves and has reportedly attracted interest from Chelsea and Tottenham.

Mavuba is good and could very easily become one of the leading CM's in the world. He's young and has all the characteristics for a good CM; speed, strength, stamina, plus his skills with the ball ain't all that bad from what little I have seen. I seriously hope Secco is just pulling a Moggi and that we sign him.

Most certainly not, but he's very talented and just needs a good career move, meaning a more competitive leauge. Only then can he develop further obviously. De Rossi is playing in Italy, CL, Mavuba ain't, he's still gotta a long way to go but personally I see a bright future ahead of him.

i didnt see him play at all but i thought he played for Bordeux

So he did play in the CL for at least the past two years, if he was a starter.
I've been following the CL(not Bordeux games) but always seen CL magazines and highlights and i have to say i've never noticed him.

All of that is true, I was just making a point; De Rossi performed on the big stage much more, Serie A being a much more competitive leauge than Ligue, Roma actually did well in the CL, at least untill the fiasco, etc. They can't be compaired.

to me it could go either way with Mavuba, but since we're close to getting Frings you think they would be compatible with eachother?
and do think it would be wise to bring in two players in such important positions from leagues outside of italy ?
