Ziegler has Juventus medical

Juventus are soon set to announce the capture of Reto Ziegler after he arrived for his medical in Turin this morning.

The left-back is available on a Bosman free transfer as his Doria contract expires at the end of next month.

Juventus have been looking for new full-back options and transfer chief Beppe Marotta knows the man from Switzerland well given their time together at Marassi.

Ziegler will become Juve’s second free signing of the summer after they yesterday grabbed Andrea Pirlo from Milan.

The Swiss defender has been in Italy since his January 2007 move from Tottenham to Sampdoria.

He’s also played for Grasshoppers, Hamburg and Wigan.

Juventus are also expected to sign Napoli midfielder Michele Pazienza on a Bosman at some stage soon.

It's good to see a sense of urgency, this must be maintained throughout the mercato with more talented and important players coming in.

Even though I agree with the statement above, we shouldn't hoard ourselves with players either. We already have a pretty big squad. A lot of going out has to happen too.

Agreed, this has to be done by shipping off last seasons mistakes and cutting off the deadwood that was here before then. But so far at least there's movement and as long as it is not just a flash in the pan it is a good sign.

If Grosso, Brazzo and Grygera make way then signing Ziegler as backup was a good move.

If Aquilani goes then signing Pirlo was a good move.

I agree we need to trim down the squad and if we do then both these transfers made sense.

This transfer market is supposed to be focused on getting quality players. Someone buy Marotta a freaking dictionary.

And people fucking believing the Tevez and Aguero rumors.

Ziegler is better then any left back we have had since 2006! (iirc)

Edit: maybe Balza is better.. But Moli, Grosso, DC, Traore are all worse than Ziegler IMO.
I'm not a huge fan, but it seems like it will be a straight battle with De Ceglie. Ziegler isn't fantastic defensively, we need to be a team that is more on the front foot if we have such fullbacks.
