A resounding display in front of a delighted home faithful proved enough to see off the challenge of Atalanta and clinch Juventus the title of ‘Winter Champions’ for the second year in succession.
Yesterday’s visitors to Juventus Stadium were barely allowed a kick as a ruthless Bianconeri swarmed forward to take advantage of Inter and Napoli defeats and stretch their lead at the top of the table to seven points.
With Antonio Conte’s men claiming the ‘Winter Champions’ title against Atalanta last season in Bergamo, there was little doubt of lightning striking twice as Juventus turned on the style with a polished performance.
Andrea Pirlo, who struck a scintillating free-kick from 30 yards out, was also at his influential best in the middle of the park, completing 110 passes, over half the amount achieved by his nearest rival, Arturo Vidal (54).
The midfielder’s masterpiece, his fourth strike of the season, means it is his best goalscoring return since the 2005/06 campaign.
In total, Juventus registered 23 shots on goal, with 13 of these calling Consigli into action. Sebastian Giovinco deserved better from a productive afternoon, having led the way with eight separate attempts.
