Anyway I was thinking old Fabio might not be a bad choice to steer the ship in the right direction if Rafa's heart strings keep him from Turin.

The guy's a winner. Runs an organized squad and seems decent in the t-market.

I would hope Liverpool to consider him if Rafa leaves.
Capello is far more suitable for curing our present woes, than Rafa. But he is also far less available. And perhaps far less interested. I say far more suitable because Fabio is obviously much more successful, but also much older. Then there is the main advantage, which is that he would undoubtedly demand and receive more respect from our players, than Benitez. he is a Leader. A man to be akin to a Don of a club. His experience and nationality and history of winning at most clubs he has managed, makes him my ideal choice. Alongside Hiddink, who lacks the success of Capello, but is an expert of making a team play to its fullest potential.

Give Fabio the same money to spend as we would give to Rafa, and I have no doubt that Fabio would take us back to the top far quicker. Rafa's football may be more attractive, and perfect for sup competitions...but...i am more interested in getting back to number club in italy, before worrying too much about european competition. and for that job, of making a machine, almost german in nature, which once started, does not stop until the league is won...that is Fabio's area of expertise, not Rafa's.

I am warming and softening towards Rafa's appointment...Especially as it seems the most likely option presently, and has done for a few weeks now. If he comes, and we get Marotta, I will be happy to put my personal feelings towards him aside, and to support him and the team he creates. Because we need a new leader...and new players...as soon as possible. I just have a feeling, like i am sure many others do, that benitez demands champions league football.

So, perhaps the story is dependent on Mourinho heading to madrid...if the special fucker wins the champions league, and the scudetto again, what challenges still present themselves for him in Milan??? He doesn't strike me as a man eager to create a new dynasty at Inter, for his interests and ambitions lie elsewhere.

can anyone please explain to me if I am wide of the mark or close?
Interesting theory, the problem with the bit about Madrid and Mourinho is that our board are not going to wait around for Benitez to see if he can join Madrid or not. He might be leaving Liverpool this summer but he seems keen to keep as many options open as possible while our board wants to sign a manager right away so we can begin to rebuild. I'm worried that even if Rafa would eventually be willing to sign for us we will miss out since the board want somebody signed quickly.
Binitez will never end up at Madrid not anytime soon that is, Their fans always ask for quality attacking football not about results, just ask Capello. Rafa would be their last option if Mourinho and Wenger turned them down IMO.

How would Rafa integrate Diego into his tactics, it looks like Diego is to be sold if Rafa comes.
Benitez's favorite formation is 4-2-3-1. Diego will play in the middle of the '3' as an attacking midfielder. Diego will definitely not be sold.

Diego doesnt score enought to replicate Gerrard in that role, plus if he bring Masce and Melo stays its going to be a very static CM pairing that we would have.

Who said Diego only needs to score to be effective? And if Diego works on his shooting skills, I'd say he'll improve the scoring chances drastically anyway. For such system to work, we definitely need a prolific striker and good wingers though.

Regarding Mascherano, don't believe much of the media BS.

Agree.. I also think a "stronger" coach can move him aournd more. Diego should be able to go left and right and pitch, and therefore also start there at times, but it seems completely impossible atm. I think he needs a boss who is the boss. And then some freaking ball players aound him.

True, but lets hope that he'll start doing what he was doing in (granted, the far more less defensive) German league.

In Bremen he scored 15, 16 and 21 goals respectively in the three seasons he was there. In Italy it's much harder to achieve those numbers but lets hope he improves when the team as a unit improves.

Benitez: 'Things have changed'

Rafa Benitez admits “conditions changed” since he signed a contract extension with Liverpool, the clearest sign yet he’s heading for Juventus.
The manager has until now been adamant that his future is not up for debate despite repeated rumours of a deal in place with the Turin giants.

“I decided to sign an extension because the squad was good and the money was going to be there. But the conditions changed,” declared Benitez to the British media.

“We've had a bad season and hopefully things will be different in the future, but at the moment I can't talk about the future because I don't know what's going on.”

Co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett are on the verge of selling the club, which for Benitez makes a huge difference to his contract until June 2014.

“I left Valencia because conditions changed,” he added of that 2004 departure from the Mestalla.

“It was not a question of my money that I stayed at Liverpool. I said 'no' to other massive offers. I decided to stay under certain conditions and they have changed.

“The players share the same frustrations. I know how they feel because I've been talking to them all season. The season has not been good, that is clear. We know why and what has to change.”
