Yeah, Liverpool's season ends a week on sunday so I guess we'll see what happens then.

Or maybe more tellingly what his reaction will be on Liverpool's lap of the pitch after their final home game of the season this sunday.
Pools season is basically ending on sunday, only if city and villa slips and they win over Chelsea, do they really have anything to play for. Next week will be real interesting...

I foresee some: :andyandbarcelona: :andyandbarcelona: then some :sergio: :sergio: :sergio: and :lol: :lol: :lol: a few :xfinger: :xfinger: somebody will :cry: but in the end we're juve at that all that matters :juventus: :flag1:

Just a hypothetical question for you guys. Who would be our 2nd option as a manager if Benitez turns us down ?!

I really think we don't have other options other than Allegri and Benitez out there. The others are not available...

Prandelli could be pursuaded i think....

Maybe Hitzfeld could lured away from the Swiss nazionale (i'd like that)

Felix Magath could be considered imo.

We can't rule out Lippi.

Mancini if city does secure CL (Maybe even if they do)

+ a lot of things will happen after the WC but I think it will be bad for our club having to wait until the end of the WC. We should fix it soon so we can be maximum prepared for the new season.

If think there are some persons out there, but Benitez surely is one of the best of them.....

Rafa has bought nearly 80 players in his reign at Liverpool, which means his average spending a single player is lower than other top teams, and this also explains his larger hit and miss ratio. Players in the 7-10M range just have a greater chance of missing.

If we get him, the board should make sure we go for better quality instead of having a huge squad.

And Trigger is absolutely right. Most ppl in here want Prandelli, Blanc or Allegri (assuming that Capello, Hiddink and the likes are not in considereation), they ALL have had very mediocre seasons. Bordeaux started off well, but have completely lost momentum. Allegri and Prandelli well we all know where they are.

I hope he comes, but I also hope that he does not get the full transfer responsebility.
You need to remember that many of those 80 players, probably at least half were no 1st team purchases either. Most were additions to the youth squad and reserves as Rafa sought to inject talent into the academy. Those players cost very little or were brought in on free transfers.

The team Rafa won the CL with and the team we have now are miles apart in quality. You don't transform a team like than by being poor in the transfer market, especially with a Liverpool budget.

The only problem is with no depth, injuries tend to bite a bit deeper than a team like Tottenham which can bring 4 strikers to ever game. People keep forgetting that players like Gerrard, Torres, Aquilani, Agger, and Johnson have missed much of the season. I'd really like to see which managers could cope with such losses, especially with CL and EL fixtures on the schedule and the PL not giving Pool the Lyon/Inter treatment.

Benitez was shit yesterday. Liver played poor and he even not tried to change something.
Liverpool played okay for the most part, though they struggled to create chances.

What would you have done with the bench Liverpool had last night?

* 01 Cavalieri,
* 16 Kyrgiakos,
* 27 Degen,
* 40 Ayala,
* 24 Ngog,
* 31 El Zhar,
* 47 Pacheco

N'gog wasn't fit and was just on the bench to make up the numbers.

You could argue it was his fault for not signing another striker. This is now a regular bug bear of reds fans.

Isn't El Zhar supposed to be a striker and having a good talent at that?
He has the ball skills but not the football brain. Classic skillfull but pointless footballer that does not fit into a Premier League team. If he was in France / Germany he would be playing many more games as his style would be 'appreciated'.

Given they play a one striker system, I don't think it is unreasonable to only have Torres, Kuyt and N'Gog.

I do think they should have signed someone better than N'Gog to be backup for Torres, given how injury prone Torres is.

I actually thought we played fairly well. If we had done the same in Madrid last week, you'd all be commending Pool. No.. wait... probably not.

I though Zhar, Pacheco, and Degen did what they could. Ran at defenders, etc.

N'Gog was 18 or 19 when we purchased him for 1.3. More of a look to the future than immediate impact. So we really should have another poacher considering Kuyt isn't much of a scored. Granted if Torres doesn't get injured the back up would never play. So really, who wants to sign up to be Nando's boot boy. Even Voronin couldn't stomach it.

He was a second striker for the Morrocan U21's, he plays on the wing for Pool

Thanks for the info :tup:

Aaron, I thought Liverpool's main problem was that they started at 100mph, but didn't score in the first half hour. Some of the football Liverpool played in the first half hour was the best I've seen from them in a long time.

Only scoring on in the first half, though, meant that Atletico were still in the game after an hour, at which point Liverpool tired.

That wouldn't normally be a problem, but Liverpool lacked the options on the bench to make a serious impact.

Benitez is a very good coach and his record speaks for itself.

Did he not sign these players?

And why did he take their best player off, Benyoun?
