I think it was a rushed oversight, a secondary detail. If it truly was a selection criteria for FIFA, Qatar should have never made it to the nomination stage to begin with.

Some may have thought Qatar would a/c the whole country. Others may have thought political resistance to the heat or to the winter could be overcome by design once awarded -- and the precedent for things like splitting a cohosted WC in 2002.

Have you seen some of these FIFA voters? They're politicians and not engineers.
Man. Stop being so scared of being branded a provincialist. It's okay, sometimed foreign people do bad things too.

Qatar's bid was centered around technology and manipulation of temperature. One of their proposals consisted of big A/C blimps flying around the country and air conditioning the stadiums. Both of which were questioned by everyone but Qatar and FIFA. As it turns out, neither is possible and we're having the world cup in December.

So theoretically, Jamaica could win a bid for the world cup by promising to add 300% more island mass by the start of the games.

Betcha China would pull that off if they held it in the South China Sea.

True, but the Qatari bid was definitely a lie. I think sets a terrible precedent for future bids. You can just make shit up that you and everyone else know to be untrue and as long as you put the money in the right places, it's all good.

Prior to Russia's move on Ukraine I was fine with 2018 WC being hosted there. But now it has become very cynical.

I'd move it into another European country....Did someone say Italy?
Italy building 10+ stadiums in 2 years? so very definitely certainly possible

Looks like thing getting hot for qatar.
There are many question marks over Qatar hosting the WC no doubt about that. Everyone knows how curropt was bin hammam and he had a huge role in Qatar hosting the competition (he was found guilty of curroption and resigned) yet they still host it.

Being from the Middle East and an Arab I was pretty happy for them to host but definitely not this shady way.

I dont see at all how the freaking climate could not be one of the most important criteria... and the giant flying ACs :howler:... it was overlooked in favor of the millions of dollars in payoffs given to the voters...

nice to meet you bro, am syrian and live in qatar.

I was happy for qatar too, leave the curroption aside and lets not kid our self.

Since when arabs can organize things :D , yes qatar has exp in that field hosting lots of activities to learn more and paying lots of money to get and buy the best to make it work.

But its to damn small to host a wc, and i cant see it to be a very good success.

Or England since they have the infrastructure. But I have a higher chance of being the king of UK than 2018 world cup moving from Russia
I think there is a very good chance it will be moved. Otherwise a lot of countries will boycott the cup and it will be a total failure. I don't see the conflict being resolved before 2017.

I don't think so honestly. Rumour has it Spain voted for Blatter today. England and US will boycott for sure, but not do many others including South Americans
