Konami Announces Pro Evolution Soccer 2009

Every year there is always the same promise:
"Known by millions of fans for its superior gameplay and incredible realism, PES 2009 will further bridge the gap between PES and the real thing."
"The new game has undergone a stunning graphical update to ensure its players look and move even more like their real-life counterparts"
“The announcement of a new PES game is always a highlight for Konami, but PES 2009 looks set to reaffirm the series’ utter superiority,” commented Jon Murphy, PES Project Leader for Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH. “We are committed to extending the realism of the new game with a wealth of key gameplay additions, and will produce a football title that truly embodies all the skill and pace that is good about the modern game.”

This time they have Messi on their side;
"Most modern players are aware of the realism and skill of the Pro Evolution Soccer series," "It is a game that truly mirrors the pace and control of real football, and as a die-hard fan of the series, I am delighted to be working with Konami on the latest version." commented Messi...

PES 2009 will be released for PlayStation3, PlayStation2, Xbox 360, PC-DVD, and PSP (PlayStationPortable) in Autumn 2008
September 30 at UK
December 31 at US

Changes:
The german games magazine Play3 have had the opportunity to play an early version of PES 2009. Here is the summary, as posted by Yak over at pesforum.de.

- Early version ran very smoothly and seemed very polished
- Improved player response with quicker passing
- AI improvements resulting in more aggressive play and better positioning
- AI in particularly good in defence
- New manual pass control… “if your team is in control of the ball the AI is in position of the player with the ball… but as soon as you press L1 you can control the player with the ball”.
- “The new pass system only sound complicated in the first way it is really easy to adapt”
- The manual control setting is replaced by the new system, with automatic and semi-automatic still selectable
- Player models look better
- A few new animations (”players wave with there hands to ask for the ball, you can see players stumble aside, players slide longer on wet grass”)
- Players reactions to weather is changed… balls are hard to control, shots become harder to catch for the goalkeepers and it is harder to pass correctly
- New mode which allows you to use your saved file online

Im playing this series since ps1 and I remember in the first series in ps2 was not great and the second series was awesome, I hope ps3 will be like this, the developers says they didnt have time in the first one they were rushed to end the game but now they dont have an excuse.

The ps3 version will be the most improved one, because the latest one was rushed and the devs lacked the proper dev tools and the proper time to optimize the title for the console.
That resulted in bad textures and unstable frame rate. All these are now fixed and it is said that with the new dev tools they can use the maximum of the ps3 graphic power to make a game even better than the 360 version...

Despite the devs said that they would replace almost all the time and try and built a new game from scratch, the first impressions do not talk about any revolutionary changes...

I just hope they fixed the stupid covering system...

you mean when the stupid damned defenders run round the back of players rather than getting in front of them and intercepting the ball?

personally i seriously hope that the new Wii version gives you more options, i like unlocking the classic teams and fiddling with players to make classic/current teams. makes games play faster and better with superb teams. unfortunately there is not many edit options in the current Wii version but the gameplay is fantastic

i'm still playing 2007 and it still rules
i liked the 2007 on consoles more too,the new one seemed a bit more "plastic"...
But on the pcs, they difference was huge, a whole new generation
you mean when the stupid damned defenders run round the back of players rather than getting in front of them and intercepting the ball?
That and everything else involves positioning and player selection while defending,
its like our own players avoid to intercept the ball before the opposition players and then we always get to select the player who is at the back,
instead the player who is at the front of side, the enemy attackers,
between him and our keeper, making their interception impossible...
this problem haunts me from 2002 if i am not mistaken...
Time for those game mechanics to change!!

Including Become a Legend; reworked master league and new ball physics also added.

Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer series--known as Winning Eleven internationally for most of its life--has long been a fan favourite, but many players and critics felt that last year's effort failed to capitalise on the power and features offered by the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Complaints were also leveled about the reliability of the online service.

Even though the game's mere release was enough to secure it a year-long spot in the UK Top 40, Konami is out to reaffirm its position in the hearts of hardcore football fans this year. Today, it announced a host of new modes and gameplay tweaks for PES 2009, which is due out on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, PlayStation 2, and PSP in Q3 2008.

At the top of the list is the Become a Legend mode, which will place you in the shoes of an individual player rather than an entire team. You'll start from humble beginnings on a youth team, and it's up to you to take charge of your career and rise through the teams and leagues. This mode will be playable in both single-player and online via the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live. Although Become a Legend might seem quite similar to FIFA's Be a Pro mode, Konami tells us that it's a feature that originally appeared in the Winning Eleven series in Japan.

PES 2009 also offers the usual host of tweaks and additions to the control and animation systems. Tricks and turns are now performed within the context of the player's run, and are executed via rapid turns and movements of the D pad or analogue stick. The ball physics now react to air resistance, ground friction, and weather, and the TeamVision AI system will recognise strategies and accumulate the data for use in Master League and League mode. Speaking of the Master League, negotiations have been simplified, and disaffected players' moods will have an adverse affect on their performances in the new game.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 will be on show and playable at next week's Leipzig Games Convention, so stay tuned this Wednesday, August 20, for even more information on the game.

I never played it on the wii, are the controls responsive? From what I've read controls aren't as accurate as they should be.
