Prince Harry has been embroiled in a fresh race row after a video showing him using racist insults was obtained by The News Of The World. The newspaper reports that the tape was made by the third in line to the throne during his Army training.

It says the prince is heard calling one Asian trainee "our little Paki friend". The newspaper reported that the videotape was shot by the prince as he was about to embark on training as a combat helicopter pilot in an airport for their flight to Cyprus.

Panning around the floor, over his bored or sleeping colleagues, he says: "This is luxury. And here is our first example of possibly how to admin yourself (meaning take care of yourself and your kit) in the terminal awaiting the RAF. It sweeps over his colleagues, with Harry commenting "Now that is bad admin, bad admin" before it tracks over an Asian cadet yards away.

"Anybody else around here?" he asks. "Ah, our little Paki friend." In a separate incident, the 24-year-old is heard calling another officer cadet who is jokingly wearing a veil on his head a "f***ing raghead". Referring to the use of the word "Paki", a statement from Clarence House said: "Prince Harry fully understands how offensive this term can be - and is extremely sorry for any offence his words might cause. "However, on this occasion three years ago, Prince Harry used the term without any malice and as a nickname about a highly popular member of his platoon.

"There is no question that Prince Harry was in any way seeking to insult his friend." It added that he was using the term "raghead" to mean "Taliban" or "Iraqi insurgent". Inayat Bungawala, of the Muslim Council of Great Britain, told Sky News that the remarks were "very, very disappointing".

"Many Muslims will be very disappointed that someone like that has used this kind of language and he really neeeds to come out with a clear statement distancing himself from this," he said.

Yes yes, and we all had a little "bubble" over it.

Seriously, who cares about these people. Why are people so obsessed with little morons such as Harry?

If people stopped listening to paparazzi media and glorifying their masters, the world would be a better place. The less I hear about meaningless little bastards such as Paris Hilton and this Harry douchebag, the better. The world needs to get over these people and think for themselves for a change.

Ahmed, what's the full story behind the term Paki being so offensive?

Is it due to the treatment, underestimation, even racist remarks by the English towards the Indians and Pakistanians in England or the rooths can be traced further back in history, in the British Raj?

Doooh, what a silly mistake

Yeah, i thought so to. It's kinda similar to the Albanians who lived in Yugoslavia (now Kosovo and the western part of Macedonia). They call themselves Shqiptar ( in Slavic: Šiptari) but they're very offended if the Serbs or Macedonians call them that way. It's because back in Yugoslavia they weren't treated equally as the Slavs, they were given the most lousy jobs, they were financially poor, and the Slavs considered them to be...hmmm.... kinda like lower race. Slowly the term Šiptar became a degrading term and the Albanians feel offended if an outsider calls them that way. The same with the N word in the USA.

But i believe it's different with you because you don't call yourself Paki, right?

    actually we do :D:D:D

but it's the intent behind it that matters...during the influx of South Asian immigrants to the UK in the 50s and 60s, it was used by the Neo-Nazis/skinheads as a racist slur to create disharmony and problems between the respective communities

That POS Harry has got a long way to go before he out does his Grandfather.

"Are you Indian or Pakistani? I can never tell the difference between you chaps". - At Washington Embassy reception for Commonwealth members.

    And

"Do you still throw spears at each other?" -
To Australian Aborigines, during a visit to Queensland, 2002.

    And

If you stay here much longer you'll all be slitty-eyed. - To British students in China during Royal visit there in 1986.

Just out of interest, have you been to the UK recently, or ever at all? Only it isn't only whites/English who try to create the dishamony you speak of.

Unfortunately good people like Princess die and morons rule the land, like we have now. Good people die for some reason and the imbeciles thrive.

this actual word isn't bad itself, i mean, pakistani ---> paki...........australian ---> ausi, it's more to do with what the word was used for, and it was used in a derogatory way in the past and now is seen as a racist word, but much like the word 'nigger' is a racist, black people use it all the time, paki isn't used just for pakistanis, in the uk it could be for any south asian

An elderly saleslady at Heathrow airport muttered the words 'bloody paki' when I asked her to hurry up a bit... I'm South Indian for god's sake...
And a couple of my friends have gotten a middle finger wag, along with 'Get out of here, paki' quite a few times.. So 'Prince' Harry's behaviour isn't surprising...

Coming from people who have absolutely no problem with calling all Jews thugs and criminals this is just rich. Even if Prince Harry said it, it was three years ago and it's debatable whether or not the word is racist. Hypocrits.

I've never encountered the more racist overtones of "Paki" with Brits or Canadians before. But the news definitely made me more aware of its existence. (I've used the term here on this site but as nothing more than shorthand for "Pakistani", as in "Brit" for "British" or "Aussie" for "Australian".) All it takes is one subset of idiots to mess it up for everyone (thank you racist UK thugs in the 1960s.)

Being ignorant about this one, is there some alternative, acceptable term for non-Pakistanis to call Pakistanis besides, well, "Pakistani"? It's a mouthful... though I also wish there was a better shorthand for "American" (and something that wasn't aliased to two entire continents). "Yankee" is just too old fashioned and cheesy.

Anyone who is between 'white' and 'black' will be considered either a paki or a chink, by a significant number of people in the UK.

The term yank is supposed to be derogatory, but I don't really care about the word to be honest.
