As the first team prepare to embark on a new Serie A campaign, the Primavera await the start of the U-19 league. The Bianconeri youngsters begin with a derby against Pro Vercelli at Chisola tomorrow. Kick-off time is 15:00.
The friendlies are done and dusted: from here on in it’s three points for a win. And the Primavera are saddled up and raring to go. Marco Baroni: "We’ve done a lot of good work over the summer and we’re ready. We know it’s only the start and that we have to keep plugging away but I’m pleased with what we’ve done so far."
Besides the squad he’s been working with since mid-July, the Tuscan coach will also be able to call on the services of Untersee and Rugani – who trained with the first team during the close season – and Mauricio Isla. The Chilean is looking to get minutes under his belt as he eases his way back to full match fitness, having spent the last six months on the sidelines following a knee operation.
Tomorrow’s tie with Pro Vercelli comes four days before another big date. On Wednesday 29 August the Primavera will make their bow in the NextGen Series when they host Fenerbahce at the Stadio Moccagatta. The team travelled to Alessandria yesterday to get a feel for the playing surface but their minds are still very much on domestic matters. Baroni stressed: "I’m eager to get off to a good start in the league so we won’t be resting players. We won't start worrying about the NextGen until Sunday."
