The Primavera continue to celebrate their last-sixteen success over Vicenza, achieved courtesy of a 5-4 win on penalties after both sides played out a 1-1 draw in normal time. And before considering their quarter-final opponents, Club Guarani, several key figures took the time to convey their delight at another hurdle overcome. Mauro Sandreani, Marco Baroni, Laurentiu Branescu and Stefano Beltrame spoke shortly after the final whistle.
Sandreani: “It was a hard-fought victory, but we deserved it. We’re happy about this success, obtained after a high-level and intense performance. We went a goal down after a few minutes and there were all the conditions for us to lose our way, instead the lads played with character. Now we’ll look to recover from a physical point of view, because it’s fundamental to be at your maximum in Viareggio.”
Baroni: “Vicenza closed down well and looked to stop us from playing. The lads gave their all today and I can’t criticise them for anything. We’ve hit the woodwork, had our chances and missed out on many occasions. Appelt? It should just be a bruise, he’s got 24 hours to recover and we hope he’ll be able to. They’re things that happen, however Bouy played well when he came on.”
Branescu: “I’m happy about getting through to the next round. We hope to keep going and progress in the competition. Each step brings us closer to the end and we want to come back with the trophy.”
Beltrame: “I’m happy at being able to contribute to this success. It wasn’t easy because they put their entire side behind the ball, but in the end we took it to penalties and made it through. We’ve worked a lot on spot kicks over the past few days, and if it comes to it at a later stage in the tournament, we’ll be ready again.”
