Four victories apiece and three draws suggests that historically, there isn’t much to choose between the two sides in Turin. However, Juventus are undefeated in the last four encounters.
1942 – The first cup tie between Juventus and Milan in Turin. A 1-1 stalemate in Milan resulted in a replay of the final on Juve’s home patch where a hat-trick from Riza Lushta helped the Bianconeri to victory against their northern rivals. This saw Juventus crowned champions for a second time, following the victory in 1938.
1967 – After a 25 year wait, the two teams met in Turin once again. On this occasion the match was only decided in extra-time. Milan came out on top and went on to win the competition.
1972 – A solitary goal from Prati was enough for Milan to overcome Juventus again on their way to another Coppa Italia victory.
1975 – Goals from Scirea and Damiani in a 2-1 Juventus victory were not enough to progress from their group due to earlier defeats at the hands of Inter and Milan.
1978 – Hampered by World Cup absentees, Juventus were forced to field a reserve side which resulted in a mismatch and a three goal defeat at the hands of the Rossoneri.
1982 – Despite a goal from Joe Jordan, Paolo Rossi’s brace was enough for the Bianconeri to secure victory. However, both sides would go on to progress from their group of six.
1985 – Former Juventus striker Antonio Virdis scored the only goal across the two legged quarter final to see Milan progress to the next round. However, they went on to lose the final 1-0 against Sampdoria.
1990 – After a goalless affair at the Delle Alpi, the teams moved on to Milan for the replay of the final where Juventus triumphed thanks to a decisive goal from defender Roberto Galia.
1992 – With the teams level from the first leg, a single goal from Schillaci was enough to see Trapattoni’s men progress to their tenth Coppa Italia final.
2002 – A 1-1 draw at home featuring goals from Milan’s José Mari and Juve’s Gianluca Zambrotta secured a spot in the final after the 2-1 victory at the San Siro.
2012 – Last year’s semi-final saw Juventus progress to the final in a dramatic two legged contest. An unlikely double from Caceres gave the Bianconeri a 2-1 advantage to take back to Turin. However Milan fought back and forced extra-time in the second leg via a late Maxi López goal. Juve emerged victorious thanks to a long range effort from Mirko Vucinic in the first period of extra-time.
The historic rivalry resumes tomorrow at 8.45pm at Juventus Stadium.
