In his defence, this wasnt an on the ball incident where he just stands around, Utd were attacking he had to quickly track back and clearly didnt get enough time to look back or think about what he did. Its not careless but its a rare situation where you have to jump over two dickheads.

It's a professional football game. Players will try to get up as soon as possible when they are defending. It would be very hard to argue that he was careless. And I don't believe it either. If he knew Zlatan was somewhere in the vicinity, this was intentional.

there's nothing to argue, he landed on someones head, of course he was careless. pro footie is important, but someones health is more important, if a defender eliminates someone by making a really hard clearance into the crowd it's not ok, they should play hard, but not reckless

if a defenders clearance has unnecessary force and ends up with a concussion for a spectator, it should be punished, yes.

Now that example was somewhat careless but not intentional but you punish a crime based on severity i.e if the woman died, then the punishment should be lengthy/life ban and down the legal route. That said its part of the game and as fans sometimes you have to expect the being hit by the ball. Whether it was out of carelessness from rio or just someone taking a shot at goal and hitting it wide.

Coming to zlatan's case he was unhurt, as i said earlier you could side on the caution of one match. However was it careless? No, Intentional? Maybe, but should we really punish anyone because of a maybe?

It is. But you're wrong in what you're saying. Whether you're playing pro footie or you're just in the streets makes a big difference. A sliding tackle on the street is assault, when playing pro football it's part of the game. You can't say that just because someone's health was in danger, there should be legal repercussions.

You could argue that he didn't have the time to look. But honestly, part of why pro football players are that good is that they are aware of where the other players on the pitch are. I think it's very unlikely he didn't know where Zlatan was. And if he did know, there's no way he wouldn't have been able to avoid landing on his head. Either he was completely unaware or he knew what he was doing. I think it's the latter, but it's still difficult to prove.

Zlatan's elbow on the other hand was clearly deliberate.

I think it was intentional too. And there's just no way he didn't know where Zlatan was.

The FA will assign three former referees to have a look at it and it will need to be a unanimous decision for Mings to get a ban."

Despite what the process says, I dont for one bit seeing him getting away with it though.

I agree with that too. To be able to punish him, you have to prove it was intentional. I don't think the evidence will be strong enough, even if I do believe it was intentional.

i'm neither a ref, nor an expert, but i watched both incidents a couple of times, and for me, mings didn't intentionally step on zlatan's head, so no ban, while zlatan 100% intentionally elbowed mings' head, so he should be banned.

i'm neither a ref, nor an expert, but i watched both incidents a couple of times, and for me, mings didn't intentionally step on zlatan's head, so no ban, while zlatan 100% intentionally elbowed mings' head, so he should be banned.

Exactly, we have sky sports panel henry and carragher who said it was intentional. MOTD Danny Murphy said it was unintentional. Talk sport's Brazil saying the same. These are just some of the footballing pundits/experts.

In summary, the disgusting Sun, Daily Fail and Sky Sports are all unanimously claiming it was intentional, whilst various other media outlets are saying unintentional.

What do you mean by "ran away"? Because Martial is running towards goal at that point, and only an idiot would stop and check something like that while the play is still open.

I also agree that you cannot prove in any way that it was intentional from Mings. It ended up as a 'bad standing on his head', I'll say that because it wasn't a stamping motion, it's gravity.

Actually I noticed something else watching this video:


When Mings attempts to jump he actually runs his leg into Rooney here (@6 secs):

He jumps off his right leg, which catches Rooney, shortening his jump and forces the landing on his left. Either that or he flies over Zlatan. For me it's unlucky, but you can't rule intent out completely.

Zlatan's is. I think the FA will hit Zlatan with 2-3 and possibly match it for Mings, only because of the profile of Zlatan. Yes they do work like that, if this was Troy Deeney it would just be another big donkey tussle.
