Think about the fact that psyllocybin, a completely natural substance, produces a unique state of consciousness in humans. It never makes you anyone but yourself, but you'll discover parts of yourself that you forgot about or never knew. If you want independant verification, ask Shadowfax.

but how does it help society? how does it help us move forward? It might help you "discover yourself" but all it will eventually is burn brain cells, am I wrong?

True, but even with those measures, you're still aiming at sustaining a population well over the minimum for long term stability. You'd still have more people than you could feed without affecting the global ecosystem in a drastic way.

You'd still be tied to fossil fuels. Both geothermal and solar energy require petroleum for their construction. Besides, solar energy isn't efficient enough except in highly uncloudy areas.

You'd stil be deforesting the entire planet at an extremely high rate. This causes a drop in the CO2 being absorbed from the air, and disrupts the water cycle causing downwind desertification.

There are more issues tied to our problem of over-population.
Perhaps we need a plague or this bird flu thing could help us out. Its true we are moving closer to our planets carrying capacity every minute. Eventually out ecosytem will crash. People will die, a lot of people. Hopefully the planet will still have enough life to right itself. But you are correct in your pessimistic assessment of the situation, the future does not look bright. :disagree:

Yes, you are wrong. I don't think that you understand what being on mushrooms is like. It's not like beer high or drunk or fucked up in any way. It's literally a trip that activates the halucinagenic centre of your brain. There was a time in human evolution when this was the constant state of humanity, basically trippin' balls all the time. Anthropaleontological nuerology is ridiculous these days. Besides it has no long term affects (it doesn't kill braincellls).

We could voluntarily (through the use of good science), reduce our population rapidly over the next 2-3 generations. We could also live in a more ecologically conscious and sustainable manner, and teach that to the next generation.

Ah, that's an interesting thought. What you've said is certainly a possibility, but by no means inevitable. We could voluntarily (through the use of good science), reduce our population rapidly over the next 2-3 generations. We could also live in a more ecologically conscious and sustainable manner, and teach that to the next generation.

We could also all be forced to go out in the woods and trip on mushrooms. It will definitely change your perspective. Don't think that I'm joking around. Members of many tribes that still exist, use psyllocibe mushrooms to enduce a powerful meditative state and connect powerfully with the earth spirits.
Unfortunately, rapid reduction of population is a terribly unfeasible idea, because it will result in a reduction of the workforce and thus economic downsizing. Add to this the burden of the old folks and social security.

Okay man, you need to look outside the box for a minute. This is more important than the economy. If we start living in a more sustainable manner, we won't need as large a workforce, and everyone can still have food, clothing, and shelter. It will come down to that, as this gets worse. People all over the world already can't afford to buy food, clothes, or shelter. As the population problem gets worse, a greater percentage of worldwide population will be without food, clean water, shelter, or clothing.

If you believe in the dogma of your religion enough that you must follow it regarding birth control, then you should only have sex until you have your first child, then you should stop. I find that people who believe strongly in their chosen religion can do amazing things.
