No one is asking anyone to believe in someone or something they don't want to. They're just asking to spare the selfish act of taking pot-shots at their respected leaders for your own personal self-gratification for just a little while.
A fairly reasonable post,swag

But where excatly in this thread did anyone take potshots at the pope...

Zlatan said he didnt care and tom said he was the same as any other man... wheres the potshots?

Theres plenty of both good and bad things to be said about this pope... but no one has

I had no one in mind per se when I wrote that. Just that I am being a bit presumptuous of the motivators behind statements about the Pope along the lines of "who cares? I don't".

That disingenious act is sort of like regularly attending the Church of the Agnostics or showing up regularly to the Apathy Club.

If one truly didn't care, they wouldn't bother. Therefore, that leaves the strong possibility that the only reason for being so disingenuous is to make digs at the people who do care.

For those having trouble "understanding what all the fuss is about", try to look past your anti-religion stance and see that the Pope is in fact a world leader just as any head of state. When Tito died, did Yugoslavia ignore this fact and carry on that day as just some other old man has died? No. Did you know that all sporting events were postponed the week that John Kennedy was killed in 1963? Do you expect life to be just another day in Cuba when Fidel Castro dies?

The Pope is bigger than any one world leader, because he transcends the international borders. He is adored all over the planet. So, like him or not; agree with him or not, you really don't understand the world around you if you fail to see "what all the fuss is about."

I agree with Zlatan. The Pope is for me no difference person than a starving poor man somwhere. He is nothing more speciel than any other man. I don't believe in him, like the catholics. So I ger kinda frustrated with this desicion, but I respect it..

I, myself, have an anti-religion stance, but I recognize that this Pope has lived an incredible life. From helping to bring down the Communist regime  in Poland to leading his people as the head of the Catholic church for 25 years, overcoming gunshot wounds, parkinsons disease, and lasting 84 years while traveling the world to comfort his people is amazing. Which is to say that he is certainly not the same as the next guy you meet on the street, or the crack addict, or the serial rapist you meet in the prison (actually people that I meet in the prison). However, the USA this month has made more out the life of a woman who really led an ordinary life for 26 years and then was brain-dead in a hospital for the next 15 years, until she died a few days ago. Her ordinary life is of more concern to some people, which is absolutely fine, it is just something that I disagree with.

There are those who get their kicks out of tearing down the belief systems of others. I know, because I'm often guilty of it everytime I come across some wide-eyed, green freshman in college who just "discovered" Ayn Rand and Objectivism.

There are a lot of things that religious figures, like the Pope, represent that I have serious issues with. But in a world era where we are often so lacking in figures of any moral authority -- or at least have any noteworthy attempt at doing such -- I welcome those who try to elevate the debate beyond who is making the fastest buck, driving the latest car, exploiting child labor in the latest third world country, etc. We've otherwise lost our Ghandis, our Martin Luther Kings, etc., and they've been replaced with arguably much more cynical role models for the world.

So maybe the Pope is not YOUR Pope. Fine. But he does represent for millions an aspiration to be better people living just lives. And this Pope has done a lot of good, unselfish things for the betterment of all the people in the world. That much, at least, is worthy of respect.

And all if this is particularly relevant to a Juve forum because the respect shown to this man translates to Serie A cancelling their games this weekend.

No one is asking anyone to believe in someone or something they don't want to. They're just asking to spare the selfish act of taking pot-shots at their respected leaders for your own personal self-gratification for just a little while.

    No...

I think Tom and Paul are on the boat with you...........
They just don't care about the Pope, while we do. That's why their opinion on the matter is worthless.

You have no idea what i think about the pope andy.. Dont start telling who or what i care about.. you dont know.

The idea that someones opinion is worthless because they are looking from a different angle or see it differently to you is absolutely ridiculous... everyones opinion on here about any subject... whatever their background, ideas or viewpoints are every bit as valid and worthwhile as anything you say..... Yes you may know more about a subject than the next man but that doesnt make his view worthless

By that logic anyones opinion that doesnt agree with you on any subject is worthless... please, gimme a break... what rubbish

It makes perfect sense really. If you don't care about the Pope why post about him? Like Greg stated it's a matter of taking digs at the people who do care for your pleasure.

Where did i take a dig at the pope andy??

As i said earlier there are alot of good and bad things that can be said about this pope... But no one has said anything bad.. have they?

Zlatan was the only one who said he didnt care... how exactly thats a dig ,I dont know
If thats his opinion why shouldnt he say it on this forum... you feel the need to tell everyone you do care, so why shouldnt he?

Tom said he was jus another old man... Which to a certain extent i agree with and as such said so (and gave reasons why this isnt to me upsetting)... Something the pope himself has said...Theres no dig there at all

    Where is this supposed dig.

I didn't say you did anything. It's not a matter of taking shots at the Pope, rather, taking digs at those who care for the Pope, as Greg stated. I suppose the word "respect" has no meaning to some people.

It's cool though, post what you want.

Yes, Paul, I found it offensive last week when you posted about masturbating in shoes. How disgusting! If you feel the urge, from time to time, to "entertain" yourself, please keep it private. Thank you.
