170 CP is amazing to be honest, your Gyarados will be over 2000 CP.

I evolved a 148 CP Magikarp into a 1702 Gyarados

Nah, according to this: https://pokeassistant.com/main/ivcalculator max cp for my Gyarados is ~1850. Usuall evolution rate for Magikarp is like 10-11x, seems you got lucky!

Lapras, Slowbro 1.6k, Vapor 1.5k and Blastoise caught in the wild. Also evolved a pretty promising 575cp Gastly now to get a pretty meh 1498 Gengar.

When I do that I make sure I evolve a couple of Pokemons that give me a new Pokemon that I don't previously have. I am working on those Caterpies now to get a Butterfree and Clefairy so I can get a Clefable. That's two new Pokemons for me and I will evolve at least 30 Pidgeys with some Rattatas and Weedles. I am also waiting to get to Level 23 but fuck the level up bonus, it's crap up until level 25

With the new 'buddy' update rooted phones are no longer supported (you can't enter the game) and my Nexus5 is rooted for backup purposes etc.
There's some workaround but requires flashing your phone or some other shit, don't have time for this. Disabled autoupdate for now but Niantic keeps on doing everything to lose more users...

It really is, the buddy bonus is amazing and the amount of candy from eggs is mouthwatering. I am walking with four incubators most of the time.

Indeed, I am workinig on collecting candy to evolve a Venusaur. I am alsmot there and I will spend the last day with my Charmander but to be honest, it should be with Snorlax.

I've still not caught a snorlax, and these 10 km eggs are so hard to find.

I hatched two on Friday and got two Elctabuzz Now I have 151 Elctabuzz candy.

I got a Snorlax from egg and I have caught 4 afterwards.
