I am not sure whether or not we have had a thread dedicated to poetry, however in recent weeks I have found a new interest in the subject. Poetry uses words in several different fashions to describe emotions, states of being, and everyday occurances, and in some ways could be the most powerful form of communcation known to man.

I thought it would be interesting to share some poetry, either your own or that of famous poets such as my favorite, Robert Frost.

Here is one I wrote a few days ago:

Unanswered


What does it mean
To not want to live anymore
To forfeit the feeling of sea breezes calming your face
To abandon the warmth of the sun comforting your place

What does it mean
To not want to love anymore
To relinquish the hands of others who wholeheartedly care
To renounce the sentiments of loved ones into thin air

What does it mean
To take your last breath
To inhale the final aroma of the earth we stand
To insufflate the penultimate offering to our land

What does it mean
To feel superfluous and unsubstantial in time
Yet withstand the power of the human race combined
Oh what does it mean

i wrote this about 3-4 years ago.i was over this girl at the time,so that is where the excessivley irritating mush comes from.


the songbird whispered in my ear
and asked me about face that i always see
so i decided to pen down some words
to tell you what you mean to me

you're the sweet fragrance from a rose
you're what a poet expresses through his prose
you're the first drop of rain falling from the sky
you're the last tear sliding down my cheeks when i cry
you're words for a man who cant speak,sound for a man who cant hear
you're a frightened man's fear,sorrow for a man who cant shed a tear
you're the song that i sing when im sad
you're the drug that i need so bad
you're my joy,you're my laughter
you're my past,my present and my forever after
you're my diamond,you're my gold
you're the young feeling that never grows old
you're water to a tired and thirsty man
you're reasoning to a person who cannot understand
you're religion to a man who doesnt believe in God
you're even to the person who only sees odd
you're love to a person who only feels hate
you're proof to a person who doesnt believe in fate
you're vision to a man who cannot see
you're ambition to man who cant be what he wants to be
you're sunshine to the person whos world is dark
to a cruel man,you're a soft and tender heart
you're what the bible means to a priest
you're what the jungle means to a beast
you're what freedom means to a man behind bars
you're what beauty means to a man with scars
you're air to a man who cannot breathe
you're blood to a man who cannot bleed
you're my mosque,you're my temple
you're my church,you're my monastrey
you're a book with a never ending story
you're a priest's unanswered prayer
you're courage to a man who cannot dare

whatever you may be
it all comes down to my love for you
and one day'll you too will love me
to the world you're its time
and soon enough you're gonna be mine
for on a dark and gloomy night you're a shining star
to make it brief
the basis of my existence is what you realy are!

As she walked away
With her bag in hand and adoring swagger
No thought of worry had invaded my psyche.
As if I was captivated with happiness
Forever

Hours seemingly became days of perplexity,
Notwithstanding thoughts of exultation of what could be.
A boy walks downstairs on Christmas Day
Only to find nothing in his stocking
Again

When examining every move I thought,
Was it something I said, or something I didn’t say?
A father visits his son’s grave two years after.
Sorry, he says, for the first
Time

The phone rings half past midnight.
A telegraph was sent from the sinking Titanic,
Stating all hope was lost for recuperation.
Our fateful eyes had touched for the last
Time

The chance to cherish and express is forever lost
As much as the days we can never revive
The sorrow runs through every vein and bone
For I never spoke the words
I love you

Time

An eternal essence,
Or whatever remains of it.
Dissolving memories,
And unsung moments.

Beautiful is the unknown,
That drapes our existence.
An approaching vacuum,
Saturated with hours.

Fading clocks,
Another day undone.
Effortless almost,
In its embrace with infinity.

As each ripple,
Drowns in its nothingness.
Time waits,
Only to leave us behind.

Suicide Note

I'm lost on the river, the river of no return,
The endless river of sorrow and pain,
I try to fight back but, it ends in tears,
Don’t know why I’m even bothering,
Life is a dark lonely prison, a part of me is dead,

You tell me to live life in hope but, its too late,
The time device of self-destruction, slowly killing myself,
Destroying my friends, forgive me mother,
For hurting you everyday, death is when I'll be happy,
Goodbye cruel world.

the light shines clearly
the mist a little leery
I am a lonesome traveler
I’ve come so far to have her
he travels near and far
his soul is bottled in a jar
so many miles and so little rest
if she saw my actions she would jest
so tired I can never sleep
when I see her I will weep

this journey home shows so much destruction
visions of Bull Run and the burning junction
if I’d stayed then I would be dead
now I think of her beside me in bed
in every town I am a stranger
on every road I am in danger
this is not the place that I once traversed
but a place that seems bitterly cursed
i am going home to find my lover
over this land a storm cloud hovers

I walk slow in soldier’s cadence
the somber dance helps my patience
I walk because that is what soldiers do
once the dead are killed and the battle is through
there are no birds or the fiddle’s song
to guide my path as I walk along
these dusty roads that once were great
this land once rivaled mighty heaven’s gate
now it seems the northern fox is on the town
the papers say Atlanta burned to the ground

in dreams I see her on the mountain
oh how she shines in beauty’s fountain
my feet draw me closer and I cease to worry
but the rain drives hard and hinders my hurry
these roads are weary, busted, and weak
they remind me of the boots upon my feet
the more I walk the more I love her
what the days ahead will bring I am not sure
I am in the place where the prettiest flowers grow
where the animals roam and the winter brings snow
