Gigi Del Neri is holding four-hour training sessions and long tactical lectures to rebuild the new Juventus.

The former Sampdoria Coach has always been known as a hard task-master and he was fired by Porto before the season began reportedly because the players protested at the tiring schedule.

Considering the sluggish physical fitness of the Bianconeri last term, Del Neri is pushing his men into four-hour athletic training sessions.

According to Tuttosport newspaper, he also sets aside time at the end of the session for basic technique and ball control practice.

He then sits the squad down for long tactical lectures so that they can fully understand his 4-4-2 system.

I'm all for training, but 4 hour sessions ??

Does anyone else here think that by October, our guys will be burned out ??

Italian coaches like long tactics sessions too. I bet that only half the training actually revolves around physical fitness.

Only anyone who has ever done any sort of sports training will disagree with you. Where's the speed in Diego's legs? Where's the power. There's a lot of muscle there, no doubt, but is it making him faster? And why does he run like that? He's always hunched over. Ronaldo's power comes from his hamstrings and glutes. Compare Ronaldo's muscles there with what Diego has and Ronaldo's by far stronger. I'm not saying that this means this is what Diego should strenghten, but it's quite obvious that Ronaldo's a better athlete. Maybe copying doesn't hurt.
I used to sprint 100 metres for my state and I know for a fact that the length of your actual legs plays a major role in how fast anyone is able to sprint. If you have well developed hamstrings and quads that doesn't necessarily make you any faster. You won't be faster then someone with a longer stride but less muscular power and development. Diego clearly doesn't have the stride of Ronaldo's.

In terms of training, the most useful muscle when it comes to sprinting is in the upper hamstring, and Diego again seems to be well developed in that area. Quads are the least effect muscle in case of short, powerful running.

Some people just weren't born quick.

They weren't born quick, but they can be quicker. Of course your leg length plays a role, but Tyson Gay is only 1m80. He's yet another prime example of a sprinter who has more hamstring development than quad development. You're right in saying that the upper hamstring is what you should work on as it is vital in hip extension, but if you're going to counter this by building huge quads, none of your work will matter. Look at how Amauri and Diego are running up that hill. Does that really look like proper form to you? Seems like they're wasting a lot of energy there and considering the fact that our team has had a gazillion hamstring injuries in recent years, I say we should change something.
