Newly-promoted Pescara have enjoyed mixed success at the Stadio Adriatico since returning to Serie A following a 19-year absence.
The Delfini were given a harsh introduction to life in the top-flight with an opening day 3-0 reverse at the hands of Inter. Sneijder put the visitors in front on 17 minutes, Milito doubled the lead moments later and Coutinho made it three with less than ten minutes remaining.
Success in front of their home faithful continued to elude them after Sampdoria ran out 3-2 winners at the Stadio Adriatico. Maxi Lopez and former Juventus winger Estigarribia shot the Blucerchiati into a two-goal lead, with Celik giving the hosts hope when he reduced the deficit with 15 minutes remaining. However, Maxi Lopez found the target once more, rendering Caprini’s late strike a mere consolation.
It proved to be third time lucky for Pescara as a fine effort from Weiss in the dying stages edged out fellow strugglers Palermo in a closely-fought encounter, earning the hosts their first Serie A victory in almost two decades.
Giovanni Stroppa’s men were then held to a goalless draw by ten-man Atalanta, bringing an end to a run of consecutive defeats.
The Delfini claimed their second home victory of the season against high-flying Parma, halting the visitors’ three-game winning streak in the process. Goals from Abbruscato and Weiss, either side of half-time, were enough to seal all three points.
