From what I've heard the most difficult part for most footballers is retiring. Basically, you know you've already surpassed your peak, and now you gotta come to terms with the fact that you'll probably never reach those heights again.

Now of course that's only in terms of fame & titles. For those that are emotionally stable, have a few great friends & family, it's not bad, they realise their luck and settle down.

But a lot of ex-footballers break down over that.

He's very eloquent, quite intelligent and happily married and all that, but whenever they ask him what he would truly want in life, he says to be 24 again and have great knees and play football.

Del Piero was getting €5m net at his peak. It's worth remembering that was 10 years ago now though.

Jj, thankfully you appeared, as I trust you remember, a couple of years before calciopoli wasn't Totti earning about 10mil/year and our very own DP about 5, 5.5, but can you remember, in the Totti 10mil salary did they also include the bonus from marketing venues, because someone said that DP also got some extra from that, about 1, 1.5mil. And DP was, is a massive symbol, half of the jerseys sold had his number and he actually earned that extra bonus rightfully.
I am sure that Dybala also sells a lot of jerseys, prolly second to Higuain this year, but if he is to stay another decade, I wonder where this salary will reach?

I think that is a case of gross being confused with net salary. At the time Del Piero had €5m Totti had €5.5m, at least from my source (GdS). This is in about 2005-06.
