As much as I applaud Marotta for his frugal habits on the market, it is certainly nice to have this example for Marotta that sometimes when you do pay up the large amounts it does pay off rather quickly. (Obviously referencing the Draxler saga).

I think Marotta will pay if he thinks a player is worth the investment. Both Dybala and Sandro (who for a player in the last year of his contract, was pretty expensive) are examples. I think we weren't quite ready to put in the kind of money Schalke wanted for Draxler at the time because we didn't think he was worth it. I think we'll continue to see that happening in the coming seasons as well. Should he overpay at times to fill a gap in the team, maybe. But I doubt he'll change his approach very drastically than what we have seen so far.

He proved to be right about fanciboi. He did spend big on Sandro and Dybala, and they delivered.


Draxler is a good example of how good Marotta is. He didnt want to overpay. And we are now seeing why he was reluctant, but did open his waller for the other two.
