but last year on contract and Dybala refusing to extend apparently, €40m seems a stretch under the circumstances... to me this is one of those situations that Marotta would consider as an opportunity.

No way he is a 40M player at his age of uncertainty. Look at Iturbe. He, similarly had one standout season at a similar age with I'm supposing more years on his contract and his price was still far too inflated by market exuberance and a bidding war. Premature, over-investment can lead to a waste of expenditure on flops. A young player having played one standout season will never ever warrant anything over a 30M fee to any sane club of which few (excepting Juve) are left.
