Evra: 'Still not real Juventus’
By Football Italia staff

Patrice Evra warns “we’re still not Juventus, because the real Juve wins the League”.

The defender criticised his teammates after the defeat to Sassuolo earlier this season, but seven wins in a row have propelled the Bianconeri back into the Scudetto race.

“We had a meeting after [Sassuolo] and we said the things we needed to say,” Evra revealed in an interview with Sky.

“At the end we all discussed the importance of playing for this club and respecting this shirt. I think it was a psychological problem.

“Psychologically there was something wrong, and we had to meet and say what was wrong, sacrifice for our teammates instead of always complaining.

“In the end I think we all had to pull in the same direction, and there wasn’t a problem for the new arrivals or the older heads, we got together and we reformed our family.

“Now we’re going in the direction we wanted at the start of the season. I’ve always believed that when you play for Juve, the goal at the start of the year is to win the title and a lot of trophies.

“That’s the way it’s always been for me, and that’s what I said when I gave my interview. Maybe some people laughed, but I still believed.

“I believe in my teammates, I believe in this club and I think we can do something great.

“But we mustn’t forget, we’re still not Juve, because the real Juve wins the League, it’s only at the end that we can talk.

“At first people talked, and that’s normal as we didn’t have a good start to the season, but now that people are saying we’re favourites it doesn’t change anything.

“The goal remains the same, and we haven’t done anything yet.

“I’ve always compared us to all the other teams, and the other teams can win the title, but of the teams I’ve played against I’d say the most dangerous is Juventus.

“I don’t think that’s arrogance, because I totally trust my teammates, and if we give our all we’ll reach our objectives.”

Evra was also asked what he did over the Christmas break.

“Something really important. Something more important than football and winning the Champions League.

“Since 2012 I’ve been working with UNICEF, and in my project we have three orphanages with children in them.

“We started with 20, now there are 500 children. It’s in a very poor neighbourhood in Dakar in Senegal.

“I can’t thank God enough for giving me the opportunity to help these children who don’t have anything, and the staff who are working for them.

“It was a very emotional and moving experience, it was the best holiday of my life.”

I can see why we signed this guy.

As much as we laugh at Man United, but they are club that have extremely similar winning mentality (which they actually learnt from us in the 90s).

This has obviously been passed on to Patrice, and now he finds himself at a club that is expected to win with no excuses or compromises made.

Evra is really a perfect professional, I hope we give him a contract extension and also a role at the club one day. Wonderful player and above all, an even better human.

I'm 90% sure that he'll have a role at United one day. He's still a massive fan of them, talks about it in every interview.

Probably an ambassadorial role. But I seriously see him getting into coaching too. Has that winning mentality.
'Before he left, Ferguson called me into his office,' the Frenchman told Canal Plus.

'He said to me, 'Pat, I'm going to tell you something very important. There are two players in this team that are going to become great trainers: Ryan Giggs and you.'
'So, I got some of my coaching credentials while still in Manchester. Now I want to get my coaching diploma and then we'll see.'

So I've got no doubt that he'll at least try :D

I can see him being Monaco coach first, maybe after a smaller French job, but a guy that intelligent and multilingual will find himself all across Europe.

Great human and footballer. Marotta did a great job with buying him for 1.5 million, I really like his attitude, he is a real gentleman.

He can become a great coach. I think he will start his career in France by one of his former clubs Nice or Monaco. There is also a chance that he will start his career in Italy, because he likes the Italian calcio and feels good here, his career started also in Italy by Marsala and then Monza.

Really exceptional professional and a good person.Never make any incidents on and off the pitch. That thing with Suarez wasn't his fault. He was provoked on a racist base.

I was thinking in the first half that I would have preferred Alex Sandro, but he was excellent in the second half (not that he was bad in the first, just that Alex Sandro has been really good going forward).

I really don't want to see Evra-Lichtsteiner manning the flanks against opponents we have to break down from out wide. There's not enough attacking impetus there.

Sandro opposite Licht, or Cuadrado opposite Evra would be much better giving us some balance between attack and defense.
