I have a rar file that I downloaded a few days back. Unfortunately, it is passworded. Does anyone know of software I could use to extract its contents?

If you don't have the password, then you might as well just forget about it.

Finding a Rar password can take days maybe weeks , with brute force programs depens how many informations you give to the program , for example: how many letters , only letters or numbers plus, caps or no caps ... anyway god luck.

I prefer not to go to all the trouble of brute force cracking rar passwords. You'd be better off tracking down where you downloaded the file from and finding where someone has posted the password.
