Tonight’s clash between Parma and Juventus will not go ahead. The game at the Tardini has been postponed due to bad weather in Emilia-Romagna, which contributed to safety issues in and around the stadium. The decision was taken by a majority from the Gruppo Operativo Sicurezza, the safety organisation which operates at the Stadio Tardini.
“It was foreseeable that this game would not have been able to go ahead,” said director Giuseppe Marotta. “The pitch was completely covered and the safety of the spectactors must always be guaranteed. If you factor in the road conditions, which would have restricted the operation of any emergency services, it’s clear that the right decision has been made.”
Marotta continued: “You can’t accommodate for the fixture calendar, containing evening matches in winter months at outdated structures, with all due respect to Parma Football Club and the city itself. We’ve built a ground capable of dealing with public order problems and viability, but Italian stadiums are considered to be the lowest quality in Europe and this is a negative trend that needs to be overcome. If you want to put on a top level spectacle, structure and adequate planning are required.”
The Bianconeri director concluded by considering the arrangements for the fixture to be rescheduled. “As far as this is concerned,” he stated. “I call on the will of Parma and the League. Unfortunately neither Parma or Juventus have European commitments, so we’ll find an adequate date.”
