Suits the EPL then. Defensive retards.
It does indeed and Germany and Spain.
But Serie a is now also making turn to spectacle.
This Barcelona has deeply affected world football, as much as we like dont like to admit.
Even our coach declared that he was insipired by then, our board since we got back from serie B, kept saying that we will promote spectacle over performance.

Italy used to be the symbol of defensive solidarity and in the core of it, it was Juventus!
We always used to have one of the best defences in the world and this had helped us beeing so consistent at winning league type of competitions.
The modern tacticians and modern footaballers adopted a more offensive approach

Conte and DC are seeds of that perception.
They both sacrifice defensive solidarity, for the extra push forward.
Lately they havegone even further by introducing CMs, as CBs, as not even there the defensive solidarity is not the prime requirement and they would prefer a decent passer.

Not so long ago, every Italian wing back, was such a a great defender, that could easily play in the center of the defence and a dedicated defensive tool.
The Maldinis and Thurams were the highest examples, but the even the Zambrottas, primarily offensive tools, could still perform sliding tackles and hone many defensive qualities.
Today we live in a day, that not even dedicated CBs, like Bonucci and Bonera dont know how to perform a sliding tackle.
Defending has been completely downplayed individually and other methods are employed, like the 3 man defense, the extra help from the CMs and wing backs, in order to compensate the lack of defensive quality with quantity.

As an older Juventus and Italian fan, i find it hard to adopt those new measures and i believe that Italian football will suffer quite a lot, by throwing away one of its strenghts.
Cannavaro thinks alike, as he is been quoted in my sig. But there are desperate times for Italian football, they desperately need more funds and offering better spectacle is the best way to reach there.

As a defensive choice we got Peluso, who is unfortunately not so defensive as well, he is also part of this new crappy generation of Italian defenders, but this is not DC's fault, DC remains our best offensive option, as he is the fastsest and better crosser. Currently our best defensive option (aprt form Chiellini) is a CM, Asamoah.

So tactically we better keep our options open and not limit them, if DC is to be replaced, he should be replaced by an offensive LWB.

Considering the fact that Asamoah's stamina can do a decent job, the Marchisio option and occasioanlly Giaccherini as well, i would rather see us replace Peluso with a proper
LB that can defend at least as good as Licht.

Seeing De Ceglie doing something like that should be concerning for Juve.

Have to wonder if he won't be quite happy to never play, pick up his Juve wage and indulge his hobbies.

Why take a pay-cut and have the inconvenience of having to play football when you can just muck around instead?
