The Rosanero have made the Renzo Barbera a fortress this season, losing just once in their first seven championship games contested on home soil.
Their only defeat came on the opening day of the season against title contenders Napoli, with the Partenopei cruising to a 3-0 success courtesy of goals from Hamsik, Maggio and Cavani.
Palermo believed they were on course for their first three points of the campaign when Arévalo broke the deadlock in their next home championship fixture against Cagliari on 40 minutes. But Sau pounced two minutes from time to secure a share of the spoils and confirm the end of Giuseppe Sannino’s reign in the Rosanero dugout.
New boss Gian Piero Gasperini celebrated his first home game in charge by steering his troops to a morale-boosting 4-1 triumph over Chievo. Miccoli struck a hat-trick, with Giorgi completing the rout ten minutes from time.
Two consecutive draws then followed: 0-0 against Torino and 2-2 with Milan. The draw against the Rossoneri saw Gasperini’s side squander a two-goal advantage, enabling the visitors to rescue a point.
Determined to bounce back from their disappointment against Milan, Palermo responded in the perfect manner by registering a 2-0 victory over Sampdoria thanks to Dybala’s double. Their return to winning ways was followed up by a 3-1 derby success over Catania. Miccoli opened the scoring, leaving Ilicic to cap off a memorable evening with a second-half brace.
