Palermo’s strong home performances have been crucial in their championship campaign so far. The Rosonero have collected 31 points from their overall total of 39 at the Renzo Barbera, courtesy of ten victories, one draw and four defeats.
Their home form at the start of the season, under the stewardship of Mangia, was nothing short of sensational as they strung together six consecutive victories. The victims of this unstoppable run were Inter (4-3), Cagliari (3-2), Siena (2-0), Lecce (2-0), Bologna (3-1) and Fiorentina (2-0).
Cesena were the first team to bring an end to Palermo’s march up the table, with Mutu’s second half goal securing a surprise victory. This was followed up by another home defeat, this time to Napoli, who ran out 3-1 winners as Cavani came back to haunt his former side by netting after the interval.
However, Palermo soon regained their stride and produced four straight successes against Genoa (5-3), Novara (2-0), Atalanta (2-1) and Lazio (5-1).
The Rosanero have stumbled on home soil in recent times, and are without a win in their last three home fixtures. Ibrahimovic’s first half hat-trick set Milan on their way to a 4-0 win, before Borini’s early strike proved enough for Roma to clinch all three points.
The slide appeared to have been reversed when Miccoli put Palermo in the driving seat against Udinese, only for Torje to pounce in the dying seconds and salvage a point for the visitors.
