I ve always wished we had him, IMO on of the best keepers ever, why not bringing him in?
The prestige he will bring would be priceless, he will start making all these positive talks about respecting Juve and remember the good old days. He will appear in our all time, best players roster.
That would be funny to have him around. Buffon hopefully will return soon, but how soon, what if he needs an extended rest? Italian fans are worried he missed Euro and we can be sure that he may avoid surgery.
I m not that confident that Belardi can fill he shoes and what happens if gets injured too, thats almost happened at Inter game IIRC.
I dont think that he will ask more than Olivera's salary but he will sure sell much more jerseys...

jesus for a second i though someone had found the first thread in the forum, back when it was martin talking to his imaginary friend......
Hahhah

I hear Barthez and Schmeichel are also available :shifty:

I agree about recalling Mirante, but we should act quickly as the transfer window closes tomorrow!
:agree:

I really don't get it, why we would sign Pagliuca when we already have great backup in Mirante who is by the way benchwarmer in Sampdoria. If this news are even 1% true than Secco is defintly a lunatic.

Maybe Pagliuca is one of the great players we are going to sign, I wouldn't be suprised :D

Juve to make Pagliuca call? Wednesday 30 January, 2008

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Veteran goalkeeper Gianluca Pagliuca could make a sensational return to Serie A with Juventus, according to his agent.

The Bianconeri are short on goalkeeping options as Azzurri No 1 Gigi Buffon struggles with a back problem.

While Emanuele Belardi has been deputising, there are reports that Claudio Ranieri doesn’t have great faith in the 30-year-old understudy or his third-choice Jess Vanstratten.

When the transfer window closes on February 1, Juve won’t be able to make any transfers, but Pagliuca will still be available as he is currently a free agent.

“His future is linked to Buffon’s situation and how his injury heals,” representative Vincenzo Rispoli explained on Affaritaliani.

“At the moment nothing is certain, but if the news on Buffon isn’t positive then Pagliuca will be the only path open for Juve.”

The former Inter and Italy hero has been without a team since his contract with Ascoli expired last summer.

The 41-year-old has been training on his own in the hope of being signed mid-season and has indicated that he is ready and willing to step in at short notice.

Pagliuca holds the record for the most appearances in the top flight by a goalkeeper. He overtook Dino Zoff’s total when he played his 571st game in September 2006 for Ascoli.

Well, if Buffon is to be out for a long time, I'd rather have Pagliuca protect my net than Bellardi.
If anybody has been watching Belardi's performances in all his games standing in for Buffon you would be on crack to think he's a better option than Pagliuca.

Peruzzi would be awesome, but I think he's finished. He retired as a top tender, but he had a lot of finger issues, fractures, and probably arthritis.

I'd take Pagliuca over Belardi anyday. I'd probably prefer Vanstrattan or Novembre over Belardi. Never seen a goalie for a team like Juve make easy saves look difficult and difficult saves look impossible by letting them in each and every time.

Well, as much as i want this to happen, i don't think Pagliuca will be a bianconero.
and that's a shame. first of all, he's better gk than belardi, second, wouldn't it be nice to say "buffon is our first gk, pagliuca the second"?two legends in one sentence and one team.

by the way, he already said that if he won't find a team in january he will retire, so in few hours his career will probably become history.

You may be right... however, just because something isn't announced doesn't mean it can't happen.

I think the most likely scenario is this:
Juventus approaches Pagliuca on contingency, awaits Buffon diagnosis. If Buffon is back within 3 weeks, they don't waste Pagliuca's time and let him retire. If he's out longer, they sign him.

yeah, that's make sense.

i forgot that pagliuca is a free player, so we will be able to sign him even next week.

anyway, let's hope gigi will be back asap

Definitely. While Pagliuca is still a decent keeper, I don't think anyone would want him more than Buffon. While Pagliuca can keep Juve in a game, Buffon can outright steal goals away from the other team. With the current defense, they need the latter.

I expect an announcement one way or the other by mid next week. Juve can still trounce Cagliari with Belardi in net. Udinese and Roma are a completely different story.

That's right. by the way, one of the most impressive performances of pagliuca "recently" was against roma, with ascoli. i think it was like 12 months ago, and i was pretty amazed of what he's capable of at the age of 41.

and gigi? best gk ever. no doubt about that.

Always been a fan of Pagliuca. A couple of years ago, I thought he was perhaps the best goalie going in Serie A at Bologna.
