Looking at the threads for the Dutch, German, French leagues so far, and also comparing them with the essential threads of last season, it seems pretty ovbious to me that these threads won't grow. So why don't we just start a thread for all other leagues?

Freddy Shepherd has stated that Newcastle are still in talks with Sporting over the sale of Hugo Viana.

Viana spent a successful season on loan in Lisbon and has made it clear that he wants to remain in his native Portugal.

Talks have so far failed to bear fruit and reports recently have put forward Porto as rival bidders for Viana's signature.

It has also been claimed that Porto could use striker Benni McCarthy as bait to land Viana, but Shepherd would appear to be suggesting that Sporting are still in pole position to land the cultured midfielder.

"There are no further developments with Hugo," said Shepherd.

"Talks are progressing well, and we're all hopeful of reaching a satisfactory outcome for both the player and the club."

Shepherd also revealed that Lee Bowyer's future is no nearer to being resolved.

The midfielder was given permission to talk to Birmingham last week and was keen on a move to Blues, before a public protest from a section of the club's fans prompted Bowyer to rethink.

He has yet to totally rule out a move, but Shepherd is in the dark as to the midfielder's next move.

"Things are still the same as far as Lee Bowyer goes," Shepherd told the club's website.

"There have been no developments over the weekend, and no deal has been agreed with Birmingham City, or any other club who have expressed an interest in signing Lee.

"We gave Birmingham permission to speak to Lee last week, and that is as far as it has gone."

Ajax have signed AZ director of football Martin van Geel. Hopefully he will fix the squad mentality and we will finally have some sane contract management and transfer strategy again - instead of buying a striker every six months.

Lens have pulled off a sizeable transfer coup by completing the signing of Anderlecht star Aruna Dindane.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a successful five-year spell in Belgium but will now make the switch to Le Championnat after the two parties agreed a suitable fee.

Lens had already agreed terms on a four-year deal with the talented forward and have now secured his signature after hammering out an agreement with Anderlecht.

Dindane proved to be a talent after scoring 50 times in 132 Jupiler League fixtures, and has continued his impressive form onto the international stage.

After forming a formidable partnership with Chelsea star Didier Drogba, Dindane has claimed five goals in the World Cup qualifying campaign that has seen Ivory Coast stake a strong claim for a place in next year's finals in Germany.

English sides West Brom and Blackburn, along with Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven, had been linked with a move for Dindane but he will now look to continue his blossoming career at Ligue 1's seventh placed side.

The fee is believed to be between 1.5 and 2 M Euro :wallbang:
