OK..I'm going to be a little controversial

It was only a matter of time before someone bought a Biblical dimension to this so it might as well be me. :D

Hurricane Katrina has practically drowned New Orleans. We all know New Orleans is one of the main stages for the Mardi Gras celebrations which is "rumoured" to be a drink and sex binge festival.

Discussion!! Is this a message?

Thailand was also badly hit in the Tsunami. Well, we all know what Thailand is famous for…(you know, why so many Western men go there for).

Are we seeing modern day Sodom and Gomorrahs.

Yes, the US has always had hurricances but not one that has covered 80% of a city before.

... Amsterdam, watch out...

Little late don't you think? :howler:

ALSO: I might be a bit rusty on my religions but if I recall correctly; the destruction of Sodom and Gomorra is a typical event from the old testament, which is also something that's not supposed to happen anymore now that God sent Jesus to pay for our sins. Forgiveness, not punishment, is God's new way.

True as long as you factor in the kid... But then you ask, since the daddy is a vindictive fellow, suppose the kid went on holiday and isn't available to beg for us for the time being?

Yes, well I don't really believe any of it. Sodom and Gomorrah? Archeologists found them; concluded it was the result of a tragic but not uncommon meteor shower.

As for God: I would imagine that in his wisdom, he would bare in mind why things are a certain way and if you look at it like that; Amsterdam is about the last city that requires punishment.

Allow me to give you the main outline: prostitution in Amsterdam was legalised to give the men and women working in that branch a chance of a better life.

By legalising it and putting it under governmental control; the men and women were saved from organised crime, which used to be in control over them (and still is in the rest of the world). After saving the prositutes out of the hands of those horrible creatures, the government then launched all sorts of programmes and nowadays, prostitutes have a worker's union, salary, a pension programme and they receive financial support if they were to decide to quit their current job and seek a career change or wish to follow an educational course for that purpose.

Battling organised crime and the horrible form of prostitution they instate can be done in various ways; but at least the Dutch way doesn't harm the prostitutes, who don't deserve the wrath of their 'owners' when the government has once again launched a military strike against the organised crime.

I don't care what the bible says; I'm not a christian. And doesn't the bible also say you shouldn't judge others because that's God's privilege only?

Amsterdam was never Christian to start with. And still for Christians it's one of the best places to live; unlike most cities on this earth, Christians are allowed to practice their faith in Amsterdam.

The Bible was written 2000 years ago by a bunch of outcasts who were despised by everyone. Enough said, Chxta.

And the "this happened to you, because God wanted so" is getting old. Things like this just happen... to everyone. Ever noticed how priests can get cancer as well, Chxta? And guess what, you don't get lepra because you took something from the candyshop.

Seriously though, it could be true that these things happen because God wants it. BUT those things would also happen if you obey the Bible, and that's a proven fact. I'm not saying I'm 100% sure there's no sadistic God doing these things, but I am 100% sure they don't happen because you didn't listen to the Bible.
