Isn't it possible to convert mp3 files into flac though?

in short, with lossless encoding, the cd doesn't loose out on the quality, like it does with mp3, but offers a lot lower compression, meaning bigger files.

Btw, I love FLAC.

It's kind of like one of the neighborhood brothas South of Market here told me when I walked into the since-demolished St. Francis movie theater to see "Heat" when it came out. He tells me, "What? You haven't seen this movie yet? It's da flack! It's da bomb!"

Within a couple months, "da bomb" references were everywhere on the streets. Eleven years gone and "flack" never got its due.

no. you see when you rip a cd into mp3 you loose on quality in advantage of compression, meaning smaller files. when you rip with lossless codecs you loose on compression in advantage of quality. to each his own, as they say.
