Peruzzi Shocks Italian Football: I'm Quitting
The former Italian international keeper has announced his decision at the end of the Roman derby which could well be his last match ever.
Angelo Peruzzi has decided to hang up his boots at the end of this season, an unexpected decision for many, including his coach and President.
"I won't continue next year and I think that this was also my last match ever, because I have a fracture in my finger.
"I said it's enough, I decided this back in January," admitted the 37-year-old keeper at the end of the Roman derby.
Coach Delio Rossi was very surprised to hear these comments.
"I'm always the last one to know these things, in all families it's this way. In my opinion if he had something to say, it was better to tell it to the club first."
Even President Claudio Lotito had no idea about Peruzzi's decision.
"I take note of what Peruzzi said. I didn't know about this. I still hope he remains at Lazio, but the club cannot intervene in the personal decisions of a player."
Peruzzi has been at Lazio since the year 2000, but before that he played for Roma (1986-1989 and 1990-1991), Verona (1989-1990), Juventus (1991-1998) and Inter (1999-2000), where he won all there was to win both domestically and on the international scene.
