Ibrahimovic: I'm Nobody's Reserve
9/9/2004 3:09:00 PM
New bianconeri player, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, spoke today about his new adventure that awaits him in Serie A.
The Swedish forward is extremely happy at the prospect of playing for such a big club, but he also believes that he is no one's reserve.

"I'm very happy of being here as I can improve and complete myself. I'm not afraid of this football, with Ajax I played important matches. Juventus is one of the strongest teams in the world. There are great players. I don't know if I will be ready for Sunday, I will have two days of work but I don't know if I shall play or not. One thing is certain, I'm nobody's reserve."

Ibrahimovic: I’m no sub
Thursday 9 September, 2004

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has warned David Trezeguet and Alex Del Piero that he hasn’t joined Juve to sit on the bench.

The three men are in competition for just two shirts and the summer signing is eager to prove his worth.

"I don’t feel like a reserve for anybody," said the £11m capture. "I’ll fight for my place in the team even if I will do what is best for the club."

Juventus start the new season at Brescia on Sunday and there is great curiosity to see who boss Fabio Capello will select in attack.

It was initially believed that Del Piero and Trezeguet would begin but Ibrahimovic’s four goals for Sweden against Malta have underlined his current form.

"I don’t think I’ve ever started a season so well," added the 22-year-old. "However, I’ve yet to train with my teammates.

"I’m ready to play on Sunday but it will be up to the Coach to decide whether that will happen.

"I consider Capello to be a great tactician and we both share the same objective which is to win.

"I’m delighted to be here and I’m not scared by what awaits. Juve are one of the best in the world and I can still improve as a player."

wtf??

better leave trez out...
As a matter of fact Trez only recovered from a muscular problem yesterday and though he was able to go for 45 mins in today's friendly against Ivrea, I wouldn't take any risks. Both DP and Zlatan seem to be enjoying a bit of good form anyways.

Did you Teresa by any chance record the interview? Would be nice to hear his own words about the transfer.

my thoughts exactly.trez's injury will be the perfect reason to start with dp and zlatan with david on the bench for at least this weekend.i'm sure a ton of us juventini are dying to see what dp and zlatan can do for each other.

Yeah, and if they play well together they might be able to push Trez out of the picture permanently :extatic:

Yes, but I think for Zlatan himself it would be best if he started on the bench and come in for 20-25 minutes in the end. Playing from start, and if he fails to impress the crowd, will just put extra pressure on him.

And, he has only trained one day with the squad yet. I'm not he knows his team mates well enough to be a starter on Sunday.

But then again, if Trez is injured, I'm sure Zlatan will take his chance and play good for a full 90 minutes, if needed.
