Trez supports goal-hungry Ibra Wednesday 28 September, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

David Trezeguet has defended Juventus teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic from jibes that he was too egoistic in the 3-0 win over Rapid Vienna.

Boss Fabio Capello was annoyed by the Swede’s selfish play at times last night, as he looked for his first Champions League goal since his arrival in 2004.

But Trezeguet insists that goal droughts are problematic periods for a forward to continue playing in.

"If a striker doesn’t score then he has just one thought in his head and that is that he wants to find a goal," the Frenchman stated. "He therefore sees things a little differently."

The former Monaco striker netted his 101st goal for the club on Tuesday, before being joined on the score sheet by Adrian Mutu and then Ibrahimovic.

"We didn’t play that great at the start of the game as we were a little tired from the Parma trip," added Trezeguet.

"But Mutu and Zlatan managed to get their first goals in Europe for us and this is very important for the rest of the season."

Juventus, who have a 100 per cent record in all competitions, are now focusing on the big Serie A clash against second placed Inter on Sunday.

"They are a team who are doing very well," noted Trezeguet. "They are the most in-form side along with us.

"Inter also have some very good players in their team. Let us hope that it is a good game."

no because juve fans are exaggerating.

Zlatan is the pride of Sweden :)
Without question. :)

Just for the record:

I really like Zlatan. He's not at 100% yet......say 94% and climbing.

Del Piero is no longer 100%, most likely....say 97% and falling.

Therefore, I think he should start most matches....at least this year. :)

Again, I am taking nothing away from Zlatan, OK? Superstar of the future. :)

Thats nice...

but his attitude and selfish play will not be tolerated at Juventus

He is already getting under players skin...and if he keeps up like this, it will be the whole team

Last season I was surprised by how much Zlatan's attitude and selfishness didn't affect the team. As I was fully expecting it. (Scary to think that there are some areas where I even think Cassano would be better.)

Without Capello at the helm, and instead someone like a Lippi, this team would be far more screwed by it, however.

Funny to see Trez defending the "striker's mentality" -- especially since Trez normally doesn't get near the ball long enough to ever be considered a ball hog on his worst days. ;)

Juventus coach Fabio Capello admits he was upset with the approach of striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic after Tuesday night's 3-0 win over Rapid Vienna.

"Ibrahimovic made two mistakes and we will discuss it later, as he was too egotistical," rapped Capello.

The Swede has often been accused of hogging the ball and he twice refused to pass the ball to a team-mate in a better scoring position.

"I really didn't appreciate when we went on the counter-attack with three against two and Alessandro Del Piero unmarked, but instead of passing it he tried to hold on and eventually lost the ball."

Yesterday, Ibra accepted Capello's criticism: "Capello explained to me I had to be less egotistical. I accept that. I was happy with my goal, but the important thing is that the team won."

Actually today Nedved came out to defend Zlatan today and the rest of the team said they have no problem at all with his selfishness as he has helped the team in many ways.

if there were any problems there, the other players (Including DP) were not gonna celebrate the goal with him.

Exactly, so it's useless trying to dig up some unexistent tension in the dressing room.
