i know all about those and i miss them
Btw, DB -- so I'm channel surfing this evening and I came across the Miss Italia competition on RAI Int'l. They have some strange head-to-head playoff between pairs of women, clad only in bikinis, where people dial in with their votes after each are asked to do their brief "talent" portion of the program.

So this one woman's special talent? She goes barefoot, not wearing heels like the others. She says she's a huge fan of calcio, so they bring out a net and a goalie -- and her special talent is taking penalty kicks. Her competitor's special talent is something like singing or dancing, but I really couldn't tell what the hell she was doing with herself on stage.

So guess who won?

Only in Italy could you win a beauty contest on penalty kicks. :)

:howler:

In Italy beauty contests and football do seem to get along, didn't the previous Miss Italia visit the Juventus training camp last year?

Benfica attacker Fabrizio Miccoli has ruled out a return to parent club Juventus.
Miccoli is on-loan at Benfica this season and Juve director general Luciano Moggi opened the door to a return to Turin for the striker after his superb performance in the Champions League this week.

But a defiant Miccoli insists he isn't thinking about a return to Juve: "I will not talk about Juventus. I am happy with how things are going in Lisbon."

Italy coach Marcello Lippi admits he is keeping tabs on Fabrizio Miccoli's form at Benfica.
The Juventus striker is impressing on-loan in Portugal and Lippi said: "Miccoli is an immense talent, has great qualities and is wonderful technically: he is enthusiastic and he has the ability of a genius.

"I hold him constantly under observation for an eventual call to the national team. He is a forward who can do very important things for all the teams in which he plays."

Haven't seen him alot but judging from Euro 04, probably good enough to play for Juve.

But we all know about players who are one-tournament wonders so anyone who's watched him in the Portugese Superliga would be more qualified to answer that question.

Rustu had a fantastic World Cup with Turkey and was undoubtedly the most impressive keeper there along with Kahn, but was dropped from the Barca first team after many disappointing displays and consequently loaned back to his former club Fenerbahce.

Suker was top scorer for Croatia when the finished 3rd in the 98' World Cup, disappeared from the radar after that.Zagorakis won last year's European Championships with Greece as captain but his performances spiralled after that and was relegated to the Bologna bench, and obviously we all know what happened to them.

Hmm...Rustu Recber, El Hadji Diouf, Davor Suker, Theodoros Zagorakis and Miroslav Klose come to mind.
Great list, Des. This nails a number of them.
