I just caught the Sporting-Benfica derby tonight. Sporting went up early and Benfica just couldn't establish any sort of offensive game. Admittedly, it was odd seeing our own little hedgehog as a central forward for Benfica, scurrying around and fighting his way towards the ball. Not enough snarling in his pace, however, as Miccoli's game was mostly reduced to taking some hard fouls in front of the penalty box (his biggest contribution to the squad) and kicking a few corners.
One of his fall-downs after getting hacked led to a great freekick goal by Simao (who always reminds me of "Jai" from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy) to tie it up after the half. But Sporting deservedly finished them off with a nice header by the proficient-of-late Liedson: 2-1 Sporting.
Koeman has his work cut out for them, with Benfica holding just one point in four matches as the Superliga doormat. Miccoli has to wonder just what the heck he stepped into.
