I think that Monaco tonight deserved more than Porto. They were unlucky loosing their captain and frontman so soon in the game and the linesman were horrible seeing inextistent off-sides that could've given Monaco the lead in the game. Monaco also played upfront all the game while Porto expressed a very Italian style of counter attack. I say welcome Didier I like the way Moanco played tonight and that offensive style of yours hope u can transfer the same mentality to Juve.

Yeah I will agree that the officiating was horrible, and that Giuly was unlucky to limp off. But its all about taking your chances, and Porto did. But Monaco was rather unlucky.

I don't know what you tuned your TV to today, but it certainly wasn't the CL Final I was watching.

Porto played Monaco completely into their hands. The game took the tempo of their strategy, and they capitalized on it.

As for the linesmen, I've always said this: it's not about convincing the TV audience or the instant replay that you're offsides or not, it's about convincing the linesmen. You fail at the latter, the former is a moot point worthy of only post-game debate by the losing team.

Even if all of those offside calls went Monaco's way -- in the ones where there was a challenge with a shot on goal or an encounter with Baia, they couldn't do anything with them anyway.

Yes, Monaco played up-front and to their strengths. But Porto is a seriously capable team on defense -- and it's true what they say about offense getting you into the championship, but defense wins it. The best team won, and well beyond any margin for error.

Personally, I don't care if DD brings an offensive style of play to Juve or not -- as long as they win. Playing more upfront is worthless if your goalie is picking the ball out of your net more than the other goalie.

Style is something for losers to debate and get excited about. If I had to pick a team for Juve to sub for in this final, it certainly would have been Porto -- not Monaco.

Good stuff Swag.

The only thing that matters to me is that Didier brings us championships. I don't care if he plays like Real Madrid or like a Porto. All I want is for Juve to be succesful. Actually, I hope he plays more like the latter of the two, because nowadays, it seems like defense wins championships. I want a side that is sound defensively to begin with, and then build from there.

the ref really did make some stupid descions, but in all fairness, these were near impossible reflex times. At least some anyway.

Look at it this way:

1. deschamps lost the final. He will be hungary when he goes to juve.
2. The monaco players value will drop, but we still know they are class!!

and i won a bet with my friends..:)

but you will never believe one friend of mine... he is a man u fan, and on the first leg against man u with porto, (2-1 porto) he said that man u will go out, and porto will win the champions league. We all laffed, but then man u went out!! He drew up a piece of paper with the remanining teams, and actually got the last 4 right..he said however, chelsea would play depor and monaco would play porto. He said porto would go and play depor..and win.

during semi final time, he said that he thinks porto and monaco were in the final, and i agreed at that point, and i asked him what the score is gonna be..what did he think. He said in these exact words: well, porto is going to win, i have a feeling its going to be one way final.. i say porto 3-0.

Porto had three chances and made three goals.
Monaco can only dream of doing that. Bella football . Like I said B4 the foundation is a strong defense and the roof is the attack:confused::D Excellent old school Italian football. Counter attack play at its best, any Serie A side would be proud.

Amen, I am with you 100% there. Offense sells tickets and jerseys, but in Serie A over many years, it's typically the team with the best defense that wins the scudetto.

With all due respect to my fellow offensively-minded Juventini, coming in second to only Roma (by 1 goal) this year in goals scored is not a red flag that we need to start pressing more offensively in our play.

However, being tied with Sampdoria at 7th for goals allowed (and just ahead of Reggina) is reason to be concerned.

So if DD's coming, he better be bringing a defense.

Lippi was invited on a sports show in Italy and he spoke to Deschamps after the game and said "Good luck Didier for the future, wherever you go". Didier made a little smile. ;)

Thats for sure. Lets get that "D" back to where it should be, which is the best in the world.

For me Monaco deserved more, but it was an unlucky day for them. If Giuly would've score from the beggining the game would've been different, if he hadn't get injury would've been different, if the linesmen would've done is job correctly would've been different...so let me tell u that defensive capabilite of Porto didn't have to do nothing with their vicotry. I beleive more that Monaco had a bad day than Porto was superior to the french team.

There is no doubt that Mourinho is a good strategist, but he got lucky yesterday. I admire more a team that goes upfront looking for a goal than one speculating with counter attacks.
