Indeed.

The Offside rule is very grey however the linesman got it spot on in my opinion.
If the rule is very grey how can it be spot on?

But anyway, my lasting point is that Italy didn't do enough offensively in the first two games to get the goals they should have got, and in this game the defending was nothing short of a joke. You can't go through with that, Italy should have done much better, even a stumbling team could get through this group

“It is only right that Italy go home,”

“Slovakia and New Zealand are teams to be respected and nothing more. If we don't beat at least one of them, then we have no place here.”

Marcello Lippi's return after the 2006 triumph proved disastrous, but Buffon defends his Coach.

“I saw he really wanted to do well and prepared every game with dedication. He knew it was going to be his last World Cup.

“The problem is that between 2006 and 2010 we have lost players like Alessandro Del Piero and Francesco Totti, among others.”

“Having said that, without doubt we could've done better with the players at our disposal. We all have to take a long, hard look at ourselves and we know that we have disappointed the nation.

“I thought some of the media criticism was over the top, such as suggesting the Nazionale was old or that the Coach would not give space to the youngsters. In the end I think everyone got a chance, but some areas of the media were too quick to crush some players who could've been useful.”

Now Cesare Prandelli will take over to begin qualifying for Euro 2012.

“The new Coach will start a different era and I hope with clear ideas. The situation of our football is not great. If two years ago people said some of our players were past it, then it suggests there was nothing better around to draw from. There aren't that many alternatives.”
:agree:

I hope he recovers asap

Why is Fabi protected?

We've not insulted her. We've made factual statements.

The real question is, why are you and that other guy protected?

You and some other kids here have brought the average IQ of this place really close to ZERO.

From Gazetta Dello Sport

Lippi: "It is my responsibility I made the wrong team "
" The coach of the National disappointed after the defeat by Slovakia: "I never thought that kids would be on the pitch with terror in the legs, head and heart. Thank you all for these fantastic years and good luck to my successor "

June 24, 2010 - Marcello Lippi suffers first defeat in a World Cup and in this way ends his bitter experience as coach, lifted the title in Berlin this embarrassing Italy can not defend even the second round.

- "I take full responsibility. No exceptions. If a team comes to an appointment so important in terror in the legs, head and heart, means that the coach has not well prepared psychologically, technically and tactical, but also psychological. Clearly I have not prepared properly. Everything I expected, not that the team is expressing as it did in the first half. I'm sorry this experience close to death in this manner. I do not say that I counted to win back the championship but not the end. Large heart wishes to my successor. And many thanks to you for four years in the beautiful in the least. "

: "No more than four years ago, but that either. And looking at two years of qualification, these were normal, not disappointing. Anyway, in a final stage to lose two players like Buffon and Pirlo not is simple. But also tonight we had to introduce other means. But we can not think that Italy is the one we saw tonight. "

. I think I had an important part in the results and now I'm in this part of my responsibility for this deletion. . "

"I said I take full responsibility. The problem is not putting somebody else first. But fielding a team capable of expressing the first minute. In the past I had created the right mix, this time I could not. But not for me There were rumblings. We had two games is not brilliant, if we had confirmed that the level of the previous races with something extra in attack, would have sufficed. I spoke with the players and said: 'Finally came the World'. In or out as for Germany and England. Instead the team has not pressed, it has built, has not done anything.

NO to repent - "No. I'm not sorry to be back. The World was an experience I wanted to redo, but I was convinced to take it to conclude otherwise. Maybe not with another victory, but even so. I going to train now. As I said I think a few months rest and then think about a cool head even if coach. I wish my successor quickly revive the team. As soon as possible. "

I grew up watching Ale and Totti take the pitch every sunday. Del Piero was, in every way imaginable, my idol. In the nineties it wasn't because he won that I liked him, but because of his exceptional class and passion. You could see it in his eyes that he loved football more than anything. And then there was Totti. Not quite the class act Del Piero was, but such a great player and a man who was very passionate about his city and his country. They represented everything I liked about football.

People associated me with Del Piero, because he was all I would talk about. Del Piero was my guy and everyone knew this. If he fucked up for Juventus or god forbid Italy, I would have to take some of the abuse too. And I did. My God, 2000 was the most horrible experience any young football fan could encounter. My idol, no my hero, had fallen. For months the mere look of him pained me. But then he scored that goal against Bari.. Juventus won the title in 2002 and Del Piero scored against Mexico.

Apart from that 2002 was the worst World Cup I have ever witnessed and I hope not to see anything like it ever again. It still disgusts me. Not only because of what happened on the pitch, but also because of the racial slur the Italians and Spaniards had to endure. I had never imagined that FIFA officials and with them fans from all over the world would have no problems with dragging them through the mud like that, not because they deserved it, but because they were what they were. 2004 didn't make things better in that aspect. Fixed or not, it was odd to see the entire world come down on the Azzurri once again.

But then came 2006. In all probability the last chance for some of my heroes to shine. Rocked by a scandal things looked rather bad at the beginning of the tournament, but led by an inspired coach Italy went on to win the damn thing. And I cannot possibly describe to any of you how glad I was to see Del Piero hold that trophy. I still watch the pictures from time to time. The generation of Italian players I grew up admiring so so much had won the title. It wasn't my title and I'll never claim it was, but the memory of hearing people shout "campioni del mondo! campioni del mondo!" while gazing over Florence and watching the Tuscan hills is something that I will always hold dear.

This World Cup it wasn't meant to be. Italy quite simply lacked quality. I didn't agree with Lippi's choices (why leave Del Piero, Totti and Cassano at home when there are no other options, why not start Quagliarella? I've wanted the guy to play the entire tournament and then he does and is brilliant). But I, for one, will not attack Marcello. He has been great and I know he will take responsibility now too. Because that's who Lippi is: a true gentleman. I feel bad for some of the players. Because they shouldn't have gone or because they should have played more. But I will not say this Italy deserved more than this. They are not a good team.

But they will be. There will be other Italian talents. Italy will do well in 2012. They will do well in 2014. But as for now, some fans will have to accept that you can't win them all. And there will no doubt be a lot of taunting. Some fans are that petty that they take so much pleasure in another man's loss. I can only say that I sympathise with them. This is what they have in their lives: they want to see another man fall. However I can't be bothered with them right now. I'm going to Spain tomorrow and I don't have the time.

No regrets, Marcello. You won in 2006, you made poor choices in 2010, but it happens. These things happen.

bit surprised that they're out so soon, but the italian team reflects the state of serie A these days (italian clubs have been really really poor those last few years).

Personally i think this is the lowest point of the italian game as a whole since i've started watching it 20 years ago.
