I don't think you get what Alen meant.

Lippi made poor changes and almost nothing is said, while if Ranieri makes a poor change he gets absolutely slaughtered.

And you just made the point even better by slagging off Ranieri for no good reason at all.

Everyone would make mistakes but yes, it really matters who makes the mistake. For a coach like Lippi who has proved himself club wise and National Team wise making mistakes is strange but you can overlook them easier than the time someone like Ranieri makes such mistakes because for Lippi it occurs once in a while, as for Ranieri, it happens regularly. The reactions of the fans when Buffon concedes a bad goal won't be the same with the ones when someone like Chimenti concedes such goal. This is just ordinary.

Absolutely, but it doesn't mean I have to like it or agree with it.

One of the reasons why I think this is a fantastic result is that we played this game without Duff and McGeady (both injured) who are our two best attacking players.
Or Stephen Reid, our best central midfielder by a distance.

A lot of people are talking that Italian team down, but there's a lot of talent there, particularly at the back. Just compare the defences - arguably the best aspect of both teams: Given's a fine keeper, but Buffon's better. Dunne is a huge player for us, but Cannavaro is better. Chiellini or O'Shea? Come on! Zambrotta or McShane? Grosso or Kevin Kilbane? Ha!

As for those who say that us celebrating the win makes us look like a small team, consider that we've only qualified for WC2002 of the last six tournaments. The draw last week was the difference between keeping in touch with Italy or being left far behind them, and meant an extra point between us and Bulgaria (five, with an extra game played now).

A draw away to Italy is a fantastic result for you guys, there is absolutely nothing wrong with celebrating it.

    Surely this is a good result for Ireland but Italy were hard done by Pazzini's red.

    Yeah, the red was harsh. Hard to criticise the ref though - O'Shea was bleeding like a stuck pig from the forehead wound, which made it look like the elbow had been delivered with a lot of force.

    Italy: Mascara yes, Cassano no
    Thursday 28 May, 2009
    There are eight debutants for the Northern Ireland friendly, including Giuseppe Mascara, but Antonio Cassano is snubbed in the Confederations Cup.

    Marcello Lippi had said he would “perform a few miracles” in his list for the June 6 test, giving recognition to those who have impressed this season.

    He was true to his word, giving Italy call-ups to Cagliari goalkeeper Federico Marchetti, Lecce defender Andrea Esposito, Palermo’s Mattia Cassani and Inter 18-year-old Davide Santon.

    Other new faces are Catania stars Marco Biagianti and Mascara, Daniele Galloppa of Siena and Chievo hitman Sergio Pellissier.

    Lippi also named 13 of the players he will take to South Africa for the Confederations Cup and the remaining 10 will be added from those in the Northern Ireland game.

    Once again Sampdoria hero Cassano has been snubbed and does not appear in either of the lists, effectively ending his hopes of ever returning to the Azzurri while Lippi is in charge.

    Italy squad to face Northern Ireland on June 6:
    Goalkeepers: De Sanctis (Galatasaray), Marchetti (Cagliari);

    Defenders: Cassani (Palermo), Dossena (Liverpool), Gamberini (Fiorentina), Grosso (Olympique Lyonnais), Esposito (Lecce), Legrottaglie (Juventus), Santon (Inter);

    Midfielders: Biagianti (Catania), Brighi (Roma), D’Agostino (Udinese), Galloppa (Siena), Gattuso (Milan), Montolivo (Fiorentina), Palombo (Sampdoria);

    Forwards: Foggia (Lazio), Mascara (Catania), Pazzini (Sampdoria), Pellissier (Chievo), Rossi (Villarreal).

    Players confirmed for the Confederations Cup:
    Goalkeepers: Buffon (Juventus)
    , Amelia (Palermo);

    Defenders: Cannavaro (Real Madrid), Chiellini (Juventus), Zambrotta (Milan);

    Midfielders: Camoranesi (Juventus), De Rossi (Roma), Pepe (Udinese), Pirlo (Milan);

    Forwards: Gilardino (Fiorentina), Iaquinta (Juventus), Quagliarella (Udinese), Toni (Bayern Munich).
