what do you guys think of aquilanis performance ?

do you think it is all donadonis fault or would you admit that he is just not mature enough to play on a higher level then serie a (againt mediocre teams)

for me he was totally anonymous
Perhaps he hasn't been given enough time to settle in the squad, so it was too much pressure for him. He was disappointing.

whats up with "enough time" ? we played another formation and first eleven in every game ... so nobody had time to adjust to that (ok, the defenders were pretty much the same in all games except the first)...

i think if a player has class, then he can make something out of it, when he gets the ball ... you obviously can't blame him, if he would make the wrong runs and not get the ball, but he got the ball in midfield but he just passed it back ... we could have brought gamberini for this position and we would have played better, because he would have been better defensively and going forward aquilani did nothing neither

Yeah, so how is anyone supposed to get used to something if the formation is always changing? I think Aquilani choked under the pressure, there is no class about that.

deal!

but honestly the german commentary is really lousy ... at times i laugh because it's so bad... for example he called buffon an "penalty killer", although everyone knows that this more of his weak sides...

yeah they seems to be more into the german league than the international soccer which i find normal because the best soccer nations dont have enough time to watch other leagues or other players because they have good football.

Toni: Defeat Is Bitter

Italy striker Luca Toni has revealed his satisfaction at his personal efforts at EURO 2008, despite being bitterly disappointed at his side’s elimination from the tournament last night…

The Bayern Munich hitman failed to find the net throughout the campaign despite an abundance of clear opportunities.

The Azzurri scraped through to the quarterfinals even though their target-man was misfiring, but they will go no further after losing to Spain.

While Toni admitted he is distraught at exiting the tournament, he insisted he was content with his efforts up until last night’s clash in Vienna.

“I was happy with my tournament before this game, as I can score or not, but the important thing is for the team to go forward,” said the 31-year-old.

“After tonight I am above all upset and disappointed, as we had a great chance to reach the semi-final and I couldn’t help them do that by scoring.”

Bitter

After 120 goalless minutes, La Furia Roja triumphed 4-2 on penalties thanks to talismanic keeper Iker Casillas, booking a semi-final date with Guus Hiddink’s rampant Russia.

Toni confessed it was heartbreaking to lose in such fashion after more than matching Luis Aragones’ side, but added that his interest in the EUROs is not yet completely extinguished.

“We are very bitter, as unfortunately penalties can give you great joy or great pain,” he said. “This is football.

“It was a hard-fought game and I don’t think Spain were any stronger.

“This squad has worked well over the past two years and qualified with a good performance against France, but when it’s head-to-head like this anything can happen.

“Now I am cheering on my Bayern Munich team-mates and hope Germany can go all the way.”

Gattuso Blames Lack Of Sharpness
Italy midfielder Gennaro Gattuso believes physical frailty was the key in his side’s quarterfinal exit from EURO 2008… The Azzurri crashed out of the competition last night, losing to Spain via penalty shootout in their final-eight clash in Vienna.

La Nazionale limped through to the knockout phase amid criticism for appearing lazy and unmotivated, as they slumped to a 3-0 defeat by the Netherlands in their Group C opener and were held 1-1 by Romania.

But Gattuso was adamant that there was no lack of desire within the squad, insisting the only real problem was physical conditioning.

“Aside from the opening match, the only thing we were really lacking was the sharpness we had in the World Cup,” said the AC Milan man.

“The spirit was the same and so was our desire to amaze and find our place in history, but our legs didn’t carry us as well.”

Understandable

Iker Casillas was the hero for Spain, the Real Madrid goalkeeper denying Antonio Di Natale and Daniele De Rossi to lead La Roja to a 4-2 shootout win and a semi-final against Russia.

But while Gattuso admitted the Italy camp is distraught after the loss, he reasoned that perhaps it was their turn to suffer from the spot.

“We are very upset, which is natural when you are part of a squad and wear the Azzurri shirt,” said the 30-year-old. “I am very proud to wear this jersey and be part of this team, as we proved we never give in.

“We won the World Cup on penalties and lost Euro 2008 on spot-kicks, so it’s understandable. You can train for penalties all you like, but when you get there the legs are shaking and it can go against you.

“Sometimes it goes well, sometimes it doesn’t. It is human to make mistakes. Practising isn’t really effective, as when you are there in front of the fans with the whole nation hanging on your shoulders, it does things to your mind.”

Missing

Gattuso was ineligible to take the field at the Ernst Happel Stadion after receiving two bookings during the group stages, leaving De Rossi and Simone Perrotta to fill the combative midfield roles.

Andrea Pirlo was also absent through suspension, and Rino believes the Azzurri suffered notably from his fellow Rossoneri’s absence.

“The team was missing Pirlo for the way he moves the ball around, without taking anything away from the other players,” he said.

Passion

Italy’s underwhelming campaign has led to speculation that coach Roberto Donadoni will get the sack, with many seething at his tactical and personnel choices throughout the tournament.

But Gattuso stood up for the former Milanista, insisting he has always had the full backing of the dressing room.

He said: “We have great respect for Donadoni and he is a good man who puts a lot of passion into his work and tells you to your face what he thinks, which in my view is very important.”

First of all, congratulations to Spain.I don't think they were superior but they had the luck which you need at times(Italy 2006).
No, Spain was thoroughly superior to Italy. Anything other than saying that is horse crap.

Spain should have won 2-0 purely on penalties during the match, yet none were called. Horrible refereeing benefitted the Azzurri, "for a change."

That's because Aquilani is an OVERRATED fucktard who gets a lot of fellatio because he's an Italian starlet.

He's not worth 30 million Euros, he's not worth 25 million Euros, and I hope a performance such as this knocks some sense into people about overrating players whom they love seeing play for their "favorite country."
