Di Natale. Di Natale, people. Di Natale is the sole reason Italy are out. Donadoni wanted to show everyone he knew better and insisted on playing Di Natale. It is only justified that italy are out. With a player such as Di Natale you're not going to win a European championship. Taking out Cassano early on, not playing Del Piero until the final five minutes showed that Donadoni was unwilling to listen to the millions of Italian voices of reason. He wanted Di Natale and Di Natale showed exactly what everyone expected him to show.

Yeah, I don't know what he wanted to prove. I never rated Di Natale that highly anyway, and I don't see why Donadoni kept his faith in him, or Toni.

You are absolutely correct thats way he was the best player for Italy in the NL game (although was a sub), he was playing out off his position in the Romania game while Donadoni's tachtique were long balls to Toni he still managed to create most of italy's chances in that game and almost scored on various occassions he created for himself.
Face it : Del Piero was bad.
Why was he bad ?
There are reasons why, but the fact is he was bad and he didn't do anything at all.

Don't you realise that you're never objective about Del Piero ? Even when he's awful you find ways to say that he was the best.

It's annoying, it really is.

There was never anything special about THIS Azzurri side.
Exactly. There is nothing special about Ambrosini, Panucci and Di Natale. Donadoni however chose to build his squad around average players. He then refused to count on Del Piero's class to bail him out.

I hope he gets massacred by the press tomorrow. What an awful coach.

Football is a team-play sport, don't blame the whole failure to anyone, even Donadoni. The fact is, why FIGC pointed this jerk to be Italy coach, they're the first to be blamed. Then Donadoni himself will be second. Finally it's the whole team, I believe if they were tougher and acted more responsible then the whole thing would be pretty different.

Del Piero was poor against Romania, but was more dangerous in 10 minutes than almost the entire Italian NT. Let's face it: Di Natale is not going to win you the Euros. Perhaps neither is Del Piero, but I'd still put my faith in him. Italy lose because of a coach who wanted to show the world he knew better.

And he didn't. That's how it is.

No argument there. Di Natale has been probably the biggest mistake in Donadoni's choosing before and during this tournament.

All this is true.

Del Piero was bad when he played, but the one to blame for that is Donadoni and only Donadoni.
He had a lethal weapon in Del Piero and he didn't know how to use it.

How do you explain Italy's failure to produce any attack when he was taken off the field during the romania game? How do you explain Italy comming to life after his introduction in the holland game? I am not saying he was terrific, but he was definately the best choice up front.

TBH, Italy played for a draw. PKs or not, they came in hoping to sneak in through the backdoor rather than winning through the front door.

That's a strategy you pull if you're Greece in '04. But even Turkey and Russia in '08 have not stooped to that wishful style of play, leaving their fate up to the coin toss of PKs.

Donadoni is one of the worst coaches I have ever seen in international football. And to be honest that's quite logical. Every other coach has been at the helm of at least one important club before trying to win the Euros or a World Cup. Donadoni on the other hand coached Livorno. Because of that experience Di Natale suddenly looked great, because obviously he would be quite an attacker for Livorno.

He's NOT good enough for Italy though.
