I strongly doubt Aquilani will be starting. Like Lippi, Donadoni will believe Perotta adds balance to the squad with his energy and I dont blame them...though of course both have never had the misfortune of not having Pirlo available
I think he'll play something like this

Buffon

Zambrotta - Panucci - Chiellini - Grosso

Ambrosini - De Rossi - Aquilani

Perrotta - Toni - Di Natale/Del Piero

I'm not sure If he'll use Mauro in this game.

Gattuso is suspended:rolleyes:

As for Toni,i don't agree,he's trying everygame,yeah didn't score yet,but he also was very unlucky,he's still hell of a scorer,you can't bench him.we need him.

Then you can move Perotta to Gattuso's place...
As for Toni, he missed a lot of easy chances last night...he should be benched, it may do him good!

I laugh Spain loses like 2-0 to Greece and Sweden wins 2-0 instead throwing all predictions out the window. If its Spain Italy play though, I expect something like this
No matter what happens Spain wins the group.
Goal difference won't count at all if Spain and one of Sweden/Russia have 6pts because Span won over both Russia and Sweden.
Spain-Italy is the quarterfinal.

Toni did everything right. He positions himself well, and his first touch and ball control usually doesnt disappoint. Somehow he just cant finish (he keeps coming close but not score) and the goal keeps on eluding him - he hits the post etc. I think it's really just luck.

However, Italy is obviously struggling to score by relying on Toni and giving long balls to him. I think Don needs to change this.

I think Pirlo's absence is a huge blow for Italy. He was very impressive against France and had some mesmorizing passes to Toni and Perrotta. However, I think with Pirlo out De Rossi has his chance to show his creative passing as he has with Roma. When Pirlo and De Rossi play together, De Rossi usually covers foior Pirlo and allows him to go forward but seldom does some passes of his own. Now, with him being the only creative force in midfield, he has a very good chance to prove himself yet again.

As for the formation against Spain, I don't think there will be any surprises.

------Buffon--------------

----Zambro---Panucci----Chiellini----Grosso

---------Ambrosini----De Rossi-------Aquilani----

------Camo/Perrotta-------------------------------------
------------------------------Cassano-----------

------------------Toni-----

He will be forced to play Aquilani to maintain the strength in the middle while I think defending against Spain would be very stupid since they play possession football and have the abiliy to open any defense up with players like Fabregas around.

I think Italy have to take it to them and play a littl emore Offensive although I doubt Donadoni will even think about playing this formation.

----Buffon-----

--Zamb----Pan-----Chiel-----Gros----

-------Ambrosini---------

-----De Rossi-------------------

----Camo-----Perrotta------Cassano--

-----------TOni------

If its Spain italia are playing, I strongly doubt a 4-3-3 sysytem will be used. I'm very positive it'll be something close to a 4-5-1/ 4-4-1-1 like Lippi did. Once thats the format, Camo will definately play coz hes a winger but he has a very hard wroking side to him

Perrotta and Ambrosini have the same role?

I might be watching a different team here but the way I see it, they have completely different roles. Ambrosini purely a defensive midfielder, he rarely goes forward with the ball in contrary to Perrotta, who usually links up midfield to attack and is always in a more attacking position than Ambrosini.

In all honesty, I don't know how Cassano has been better than Del Piero. I'm actually with Cassano starting alongside Alex. But lets be honest France were playing with one man down, plus Italy's system of play was different, when Del Piero was playing all he could receive was a package full of crosses, Cassano had better services last night, he was ok not impressive not that good.

It's unfair to say that he impressed more than Del Piero.

Neither of them impressed,Cassano just looked better.
Maybe it's the dervice he got, maybe you right, but the fact is he did look better.

I'm not saying it's Ale's fault that he played badly against Romania. I know it's because of the system Italy had played. I want Del piero to start but do you honestly think he will? Cassano has linked up well yesterday with the offense and despite being neutral most of the game, he was better used than Ale.

I would want them to play together but I doubt Donadoni does.

Domenech: Italy Game Was Fixed

Raymond Domenech has blamed referee Lubos Michel for France’s Euro 2008 exit last night, and says it was if it had already been arranged that Italy were supposed to win.

Les Bleus crashed out of the Euros at the group stage as their 2-0 defeat to Italy means they finish rock bottom of Group C with just one point.

The match was all but over from the 25th minute when Eric Abidal conceded a penalty for a foul on Luca Toni, and was also shown a straight red card as he was the last man.

Andrea Pirlo converted from the spot and the World Champions later added a second through a deflected Daniele De Rossi free kick.

Domenech was furious by the performance of the referee, and says that it was almost as if it had already been arranged that France must be knocked out of the competition.

“The mistake was giving Italy a penalty that also caused a red card,” Domenech lamented.

“It was a catastrophic evening where we lost a striker after 10 minutes and there was a penalty due to a poor decision by the referee.

“There wasn’t any real aggression, it was as if the game had been awarded to the Italians. We can only be disappointed.”
