Donadoni Tight-Lipped On Formation

Italy coach Roberto Donadoni talked about the importance of tomorrow's Group C clash against France but did not reveal the formation he intends to use.

It surely cannot be a normal match for Italy coach Roberto Donadoni against France. The result of this game will not only decide the Azzurri's destiny at Euro 2008, but also Donadoni's future on the Italian bench.

In a press conference today he said he is completely focused on the match with Les Bleus, and doesn't think Holland will throw their game against Romania.

"We are ready, we know what we are playing for: we will give everything we have, body and spirit," he said. "This for us is another final, it's a very important match, in fact it's the match."

As usual, Donadoni did not reveal the formation for the match: "You will see tomorrow, I'm not saying the formation. I'm not saying anything this time. We still have tomorrow's training session to decide."

His final comment was on the possibility of leaving the Euros already tomorrow (which certainly isn't small in Italy's case): "No, I haven't packed my luggage already. At the moment we are not thinking about that. There's still time to pack them..."

Pirlo expects France start

Italy midfielder Andrea Pirlo has refuted Press reports in the peninsula that he will be dropped for tomorrow’s D-day clash against France.

After the Azzurri’s stuttering start, the nation’s media have been heaping the pressure on Coach Roberto Donadoni and demanding he shakes things up before their all-or-nothing game against France.

Several of today’s newspapers have reported that the under-fire tactician will drop Pirlo, who has failed to have the expected effect in the first two games.

However, the Milan star laughed off the speculation during a brief discussion with journalists this afternoon.

“I will certainly be playing tomorrow,” he stressed. “The decision is with the Coach, but I think I’ll be chosen.”

There are many theories over the changes that Donadoni will make, with widespread suggestions that Antonio Cassano will start, but the former Livorno man would only stress that his preparations had gone well.

“We are ready,” he said. “We know what we are playing for and we will give everything we have in body and spirit.

“This is another Final for us. It is a very important game - rather it is the game. I will pick my team after training tomorrow morning.”

Even if they beat France, Italy will be eliminated from Euro 2008 if Romania beat Holland.

Pirlo not startingis ludacris. Even in off form state, his passes find their mark....Theres no worse feeling than seeing Ambro or Rhino in the final 3rd with the ball looking for a killer pass and knowing it wont happen unless it ricochets or sumthin

So much talk and it's all useless because the Romanians will beat Holland tomorrow.
The Dutch will let Romania win. And why shouldn't they ? France, and especially Italy would have done that without thinking twice.

Nedved: « Italy, don't do what we did!»
The day after the Czech Republic's incredible elimination and on the eve of the decisive Italy vs. France clash, who better than Pavel Nedved to comment what has happened at Euro 2008 so far. Still in disbelief for what his fellow country men did, the “Czech Fury” spoke exclusively to Juventus Channel, in a phone call broadcast during the “231 Estate” programme today (to be shown again at 8.15 pm).

«I still don't understand what happened – Pavel remarked, speaking about his former team mates' match against Turkey – It was really strange, our National team hadn't played a match like that in a long, long time. I guess when they were up 2-0 the lads were convinced it was over and they let go a bit, then when the Turks scored they got scared and then the equalizer just took the wind out of them. Grygera? I haven't had the courage to call him yet. I spoke to him before the game and he told me they were all excited and convinced they were going to win».

With his Czech Republic now out, Pavel's focus is entirely on Italy. In fact, the whole Nedved family's focus is on them: «My son supports the Azzurri and he cried when they lost the other day. Now I'm hoping they won't do what my fellow countrymen did. Unfortunately it's not going to be easy because to qualify they must not only win against France, but also hope Rumania don't win their game. But I don't believe Holland will arrange to lose on purpose because no-one wants to make a bad impression».

And finally, just a few words about Juventus. There'll be time to think about Pinzolo and the exciting new season after his well-deserved holiday. But Nedved wanted to speak specifically about new team mate Amauri. And he couldn't have praised the new man more: «I'm really happy he's coming to play with us, he is exactly the kind of player we needed. He's very strong but very skilful too; Juventus really did a great thing in signing him up».

I think the final result between France and Italy will be 3-1 to the French. Henry to score a double, maybe cassano to pull one back for us though.

Why am I so pesimisstic? I think our defence won't be able to handle the combination of Henry and Benzema and will simply just crumble, they are faster and have more desire than us I see Buffon pulling a few amazing saves out of the bag but it won't be enough.

After the euro's its time for Italy to blood in the new generation.

To tell the truth, this thread has totally killed the match for me tomorrow. I don't care who wins anymore. I fell asleep at minute 5 in the Germany match today and I like the Germans. My football lebido is so dead right now. Screw this soccer stuff.

Im moving on to American football. Texans signed Colvin today, Superbowl or bust baby!

I was in the minority who thought Pirlo was poor against Romania but even so, he should start and he will. Stop reading into what websites say and just wait till tomorrow.

My predictions:

Romania 2-1 Holland
France 1-1 Italy

[I hope I'm wrong, I usually am]
