Yeah I don't think he will return and I wish he would come back to Juve but that really is too much of a dream plus Lippi is all into yachting currently so I don't think Turin would be his choice destination.

I guess we just have to wait and see who is going to be the future coach of the Azzurri.

Don has two Glasgow doubts

Less than 72 hours from the showdown with Scotland, Roberto Donadoni’s Italy line-up seems to have just two doubts in defence and midfield.

Saturday’s encounter in Glasgow is a decisive match in the race for Euro 2008 qualification, as Scotland need a win while the Azzurri could feasibly be content with a draw, having to face the Faroe Islands in their final game next Wednesday.

According to the Italian media, Donadoni has already picked his starting XI save for two alternatives.

Massimo Oddo’s pace and the experience of Christian Panucci duel for the right-back slot in Hampden Park.

It is another Milan-Roma challenge for the midfield place between Massimo Ambrosini and World Cup winner Daniele De Rossi.

Gianluca Zambrotta has now joined the squad at the Coverciano training ground, as Barcelona opted to delay handing over the player until the legal four-day limit.

It is believed the Coach will take on Scotland with a 4-1-4-1 system that can transform into a 4-3-3 when in possession.

The rest of the line-up should consist of Fabio Cannavaro, Andrea Barzagli and Zambrotta in defence, while Mauro Camoranesi and Antonio Di Natale flank striker Luca Toni.

During today’s session Donadoni oversaw a game between ranks with two different tactical systems, one a 4-4-2 and the other a 4-3-3.

Yellow: Buffon; Panucci, Bonera, Chiellini, Zambrotta; Quagliarella, Perrotta, Pirlo, Palladino; Toni, Gilardino

Blue: Amelia; Oddo, Cannavaro, Barzagli, Grosso; Camoranesi, Gattuso, De Rossi; Iaquinta, Lucarelli, Di Natale

It was the Blue team that emerged with a 4-3 victory thanks to braces from Vincenzo Iaquinta and Gennaro Gattuso.

Toni netted twice for the Yellow side and Alberto Gilardino got the other goal.

capello would suck bad! it'll be like going back to trap's era...catennacio at its worst. del piero might as well retire if capello became the NT coach. don't think lippi would make a return unfortunately. he's a cunning fox, lippi. quitting when he's on top only serves to elevate his legacy.

hope palla is given some time in the faroe match. isn't that team with carpenters and school teachers??

Donadoni Almost Sure Of Formation

Italy coach Roberto Donadoni allegedly has few doubts on what formation the team will line up with against Scotland on Saturday.

Roberto Donadoni has very clear ideas on the formation he wants Italy to play with in Saturday's crunch match at Celtic Park against Glasgow. Only on two position does he still have some doubts.

Massimo Oddo and Christian Panucci are contending the right back spot, while in midfield the doubt is between Massimo Ambrosini and Daniele De Rossi, with the Milan midfielder currently appearing to be the favorite.

So it seems Italy will play with a midfield built largely around Milan players, with playmaker Andrea Pirlo and defensive rock Gennaro Gattuso already sure of a starting place.

Gigi Buffon will take his place between the sticks as usual, with returning captain Fabio Cannavaro, Palermo's Andrea Barzagli, and Gianluca Zambrotta completing the defensive department.

Up front, Donadoni seems intent to play with a three-man attack, with the in-form Mauro Camoranesi and Antonio Di Natale playing as wingers alongside striker Luca Toni.

I really hope he plays De Rossi in the midfield rather than Ambrosini. I don't want the whole Milan midfield again. It didn't work all that well. Everything else I expected from him.

It's actually a tough choice to choose between De Rossi and Ambrosini, they're both doing well recently. Ambrosini has become a started under Ancelotti and De Rossi is like usually doing well.

If Pirlo is set to start alongside Gattuso I'd go with De Rossi. If Perrotta is going to start alongisde Pirl and Gattuso then I'd expect Ambrosini.

If I was Donadoni I would be tempted to start with Pirlo playing behind Gattuso-Ambrosini-De Rossi to try and totally stop Scotland from playing.

Yeah that is a good point but I doubt he is going to start Perrotta that is very un-Doni like. The guy is too predictable and enjoys playing team players together. That was his reasoning for having a total Milan midfield as well as playing Fabio Q w/ Di Natale which did not do well at all for us in that game. In that last game, Ambrosini just didn't really impress me. Now De Rossi really does wonders in the midfield.

I agree with everything. Except the Ambrosini part, I think he works alot on the field. He got stamina and to me thats the most important thing for a DM.

I agree he does have stamina and I have only seen him perform for the Azzurri since I rarely watch Milan games. I am making my judgment on that. Plus I think De Rossi is equal to him and he also has attacking abilities as well which I want against Scotland because I really want us to win this.
