Yea the building of tension is good. I didn't like how they pretty much copied the opening from 28 days later with the main character missing out on everything because he was in the hospital. Also the plot to head back into zombieville to save that redneck is another of those dumb horror flick plans that takes away from the story being believable.
28 days later was a good modern horror film. Most likely because the director was an actual movie director as opposed to someone who just makes short horror flicks.
Paranormal Activity is also worth a mention here, especially regarding the fact that it was a very profitable movie considering the low making costs. I think it's one of the most profitable one ever made if Im not mistaken.

I found it more a thriller than a horror movie TBH, there simply isn't anything to keep you on the edge of your seat but the plot itself was a pretty damn good one.
Come to think of it, that part when the gang was sleeping at the hero's place that was suddenly attacked was a bit horror-like but still, I wouldn't call that a horror movie.
Well yea the movie was made by a legit director so it was much more dramatic and well written then most low budget horror flicks. It's like a horror movie but with alot more to it than just pop out moments even though the zombies are still freaky as hell.
I hate to sound so trendy, but I'm a bigger fan of the whole J-Horror thing these days. Starting from Kwaidan in the 1960s and moving through Ringu, Ju-on, One Missed Call...
The most recent horror movie that I've seen and liked was Audition.

It's pacing is quite pleasant. It's probably an 90 something minute movie that feels like 45-50 minutes. It's not as good as the first because it's not Danny Boyle behind the lens and it's a sequel. But it's worth watching.
