Me neither. China, a supplier of oil and food for this region, could well have been backing the action. It remains to be seen. Would strike me as odd, though, considering the economic spheres they are operating within. But possible. The rest of the nuclear weapon states and the international community as a whole should now, one way or another, clearly make North Korea understand that nuclear testing is unacceptable. Sanctions are important. If they are not imposed, what message does that send to the other states with nuclear arms, like Iran?

Do e a favour, Jem, and tell me why only North Korea should be under sanctions for a guilt that it shares with many countries in this World!!!

Having nuclear weapons?? So what?? Are they threatening two neighbour countries?? So what?? I know a country that threatens 20 neighbour countires since 60 years by the same weapons without seeing anybody saying any word about sanctions or even criticizing...

What a joke of a world we're living in these days...

And about the pictures which were claimed to be from North Korea, I think you all know that photoshop can do worse pictures, and you can find such scary pictures in all the countries of the World (In the poor neighbourhoods, at least)...

And let's assume that those pictures were correct and exclusive only in North Korea. Will the solution be occupying the country and killing hundred innocents just because they don't know their good??

originally to protect us from the threat of the Soviet Union, who also is heavily armed btw..

and now to protect us from a wack-job who has no regard for his people, let alone the rest of the world, and could fire a missile out of complete paranoia of a "supposed" US attack on his country...and to protect us from a fundamentalist Islamic country who has already made claims to wipe one nation off the map when they are nuclear capable...and may aim to the west immediately after...

Credibility? Their leader's sole purpose in life is to keep the nation far, far away from the rest of the world in every sense to every extent possible. They're not after credibility, they don't care about the rest of the world. That's exactly why this situation is so much more dangerous and intriguing than it would have been had it been Iran instead of North Korea.

Full stop. Meaning you couldn't by definition know Iraq and Afghanistan are in fact worse off right now unless you've actually been to those places both before and after the war. Have you?

I've been to Iraq before during Saddam's reign, and I don't remember seeing 100 bodies everyday in Baghdad...

That's not how I understand the situation but I'll admit that I don't know a lot about the subject. I should probably refrain from comments, since I only picked up some things from various media sources and Kurdish protesting groups when I worked for the Dutch government.
