I don't know about naive, but there are certainly issues there.
Generally the problem starts from neither winger doing any meaningful defending.
That means a fullback can be pulled forward into a space that should be covered by the winger, which can result in the centre-half being pulled wide into the space vacated by the full-back and then Roma are in a bad situation.
Frequently they are saved by De Rossi then dropping back in to cover the centre-half that has been dragged out of position, but that is not always possible and it also leaves a gap in midfield.
They try to defend with just seven players, but they then try to defend too aggressively by pressing or holding a high line when it's not appropriate.
If you want to defend with just seven players, I believe you need to drop off and focus on denying the opposition space in key areas, rather than trying to stop an attack early.
Allegri's Milan was quite good at defending with seven and we may see that again this season if Juve keep gathering forwards.

The agent of Milan target Arda Turan has said the Atletico Madrid star won’t consider a move to the Rossoneri as they aren’t in the Champions League.
Ahmed Bulut told AS that the Turkey international wants a move to the Premier League and that he won’t consider Milan as an option this summer.
