I know he's playing well this season, but can you honestly say that if or when all Roma's midfielders are fit and in form, that he'd be a definite starter?

I disagree about his defensive positional sense, do you think he can play as the lone defensive midfielder, I've seen him being played there a few times for Roma, but only in games against the smaller teams and/or when De Rossi and Keita are not around.

Carrick isn't a 50M player, he's a 33 year old English midfielder who is close to the end of his career. Matic isn't a 50M midfielder either, he wouldn't get a sniff with him IMO. I see you disagreeing with my assessment of Radja, but are we really disagreeing? My statement to BD was that United shouldn't be looking to buy him? do you disagree with that? I also said that Roma is as good as it will get for him? If you disagree with that, please tell me who he'd start for?

If you're saying he's a good midfielder for Roma, I have no problem with that. I don't think the likes of United for example should be after him though, he's not that good.

Roma has a well packed midfielders so even if he's a backup (who still plays many minutes) that's not an embarassment. Pjanic and Strootman are wonderful players and while I don't rate De Rossi as much as others, he has gotten better over the past year or so and he's also on 6.5mln/year.

Matic might be Serbian, I might be biased, but that guy is a total boss in my books his price is skyrocketing, rightfully so.

So IMO we partly disagree, simply because I rate Radja higher. And I believe he could easily fill the spot as a backup (I guess this may sound better) for many top clubs and surely in one mediocre United.

But seriously, no he won't, absolutely not. Like I said, I'd take Carrick over him any day of the week. The guy is very underrated imo.

i think you are overrating carrick, he's good at intercepting passes and his distribution is decent but he lacks energy and drive in that midfield, it's no wonder why rooney has had to play a deeper role this season to try and compensate that

Rooney did the same in Fergusons last season when he practically played as a CM the last few months... they are lacking a player like Nainggolan for years, and while their fans are all obsessed with Strootman, its Nainggolan who would improve them much more. not because hes a better player, but because they lack a player like him

Ya, I think we'll disagree on Carrick, your opinion on him is probably a more popular one than mine btw. Still I believe he's extremely underrated, he's the type of player that isn't appreciated that much in England. But his managers from Fergie to Van Gaal speak extremely highly of him, so do his teammates, many believe he's underrated. Theres a reason that at 33 he still starts for United and is regarded by LVG as one of their most important players.

Naingollan hasn't even played at that level, so lets not even get into a Naingollan - Carrick argument, ya we agree to disagree on that

He doesn't have energy or drive and that is always the criticism which is rightfully directed at him. You don't have many of those players who can start an attack as well as Carrick does though, and for that reason I'd play a more physical, energetic midfielder alongside him, that doesn't take away from Carrick though, he's still a very good midfielder IMO. Theres a reason both Van Gaal and Alex Ferguson speak so highly of him, regardless of Van Gaal's terrible start at United, the guy is still a proven manager and his opinion counts for something.

For Arsenal's fans players like Naingolan are average. Good players are Henry, Cazorla, Messi and so on. All that has flair and fancy otherwise it's just average.

That's because Fellaini was never a good defensive midfielder, ever. At Everton he became prominent when he played in a more offensive position closer to goal, where his aerial prowess can be used to better effect.

If I were Belgium manager I'd play Naingollan Witsel right now, Dembele has really dipped in the past year or so, I remember back when he was at Fulham and when he first joined Tottenham, he was a beast.

True, I would also play Witsel/Nainggolan, with Chadli, de Bruyne and Hazard as midfielders and Benteke as a striker.

Actually Arsenal are the only team that Naingollan would definitely start(not much of an achievment when the competition is a 33 year old Arteta and Flamini), but I know the assholes over here would jump on me with the jokes about Arsenal being a small team if I mentioned them in the discussion

I really like deep lying playmakers, perhaps thats one of the reasons I rate Carrick. I even like watching random deep lying playmakers, you find a lot of those in Italy where they appreciate that kind of player. Liverani and Eugenio Corini back in the day were enjoyable to watch . These days you have the likes of Lodi, Ledesma(though he doesn't play anymore), Cigarini and of course one of the best in that role David Pizarro. I'm talking about the ones that play for lesser teams thats why I didn't mention the master and standard for all deep lying playmakers; Andrea Pirlo.

Fuckin love Verratti. He is amazing, they don't always play him in a deep role though, many times its Thiago Motta that occupies that role. But Verratti plays that role to perfection when given the chance.

Pizarro was indeed amazing in Udinese, he's still very good. If I watch Fiorentina its always to see him play, such a joy watching him. These kind of players are one of my favourites really.

At Real Kroos now plays as the deepest midfielder, he too is playing that role very well. Of course Alonso at Bayern too.
